2013 BMW 5 ActiveHybrid

The 2013 BMW 5 ActiveHybrid is fitted with both a standard internal combustion engine and an electric motor.

The electronic systems in the car continually assess power requirements and seamlessly switch between gas and electric power as necessary, thereby delivering maximum fuel efficiency.

Added Feature

However, in the 2013 ActiveHybrid, BMW has taken this system even further by linking it with the navigation system. Using intelligent analysis of driving requirements, the system can carry out various functions, including energy-saving measures, based on the terrain through which it is driving.

For example, the system will know from navigation data that the car is coming to a long downhill stretch and will automatically use that data to start charging the electric motor’s battery.

Performance

The BMW 5 ActiveHybrid’s gas engine is BMW’s award winning and powerful six-cylinder, 3-liter model that can generate 306 horsepower and 295 lbs-ft of torque. The electric motor can generate up to 55 horsepower and can be used to supplement the gas engine in situations where rapid power input is required, for example when accelerating to overtake.

The car is fitted with a fully automatic 8-speed transmission that is fully integrated with both power plants. An optional sport version of the transmission is available to deliver sharper performance if required.

Electric Motor

The electric motor’s battery is a lithium based device that BMW built specifically for this car. The unit is stored in the boot between the wheel bases and is fully protected in its own housing.

Added to the standard 14v electrical system, the car also has a high-voltage 317v system that powers the air-conditioning system, adding even more fuel efficiency. The 2013 BMW 5 ActiveHybrid can drive on electric power until the speed reaches 37mph, above which the gas engine kicks in.

Safety Features

The car is equipped with numerous features for enhanced safety. Apart from the ABS, there are systems for braking control when cornering, braking assist, dynamic braking control and dynamic traction control. All of these systems continually monitor conditions and driver actions and will automatically correct by adjusting brakes and power.

2012 Toyota Yaris

Toyota Yaris has become a popular choice among compact cars in the United States. It features a sporty exterior and a attractive interior equipped with safety measures.

People say that the 2012 Toyota Yaris is an improvement from the 2011 model. But most others think that the new Yaris is an average car.

Performance

When choosing a new car, one of the main aspects you need to consider is its performance. Even though the Yaris cannot be considered as a muscle car, it holds its own when it comes to performance. It features a 4 cylinder 100 horse power engine. The SE Model’s stiff suspension provides precise handling.

Fuel efficiency

If you are looking for outstanding gas mileage, but don’t want to spend on a hybrid, you must consider the new Toyota Yaris. It is best noted for its speed and mileage of 29 mpg city drive and 36 mpg on the highway. Definitely, it will top other subcompact car when its mileage is taken into consideration.

Safety Features

Safety is important when you choose a car. One of the major selling points of the Yaris is its safety directed specifications. The Yaris is remarkably noted for its Star Safety System.

This feature helps you quickly stop your vehicle if you are going at a speed greater than 5 miles per hour. The vehicle is also equipped with nine airbags which is strategically placed to ensure the safety of passengers as well as the driver. In addition, the vehicle also features innovative shock absorption zones that are placed both in front and back of the car.

Interior

The new Toyota Yaris has a number of outstanding interior features. It is impressive when compared to other competitors. Some of the main features include LCD odometers, twin trip meter, fuel level gauge, interior map light, and CFC free air conditioning.

The interior includes a covered storage deck box in the rear and a rear bench seat. Warning lights are in place for battery, low fuel level, seat belt, oil pressure, air bag, and door ajar notifications.

The seating is configured for maximum comfort. The front seats have a 4 way adjustable capability. It includes day and night rear view mirrors, temperature displays, an MP3 player with four speakers, USB and iPod ports.

Exterior

Apart from the interior comfort level of a car, you may have to consider its exterior features too. The Yaris comes with exterior features such as steel wheels, rear wiper, roof antenna and an aerodynamic multi reflector halogen head lamp.

Moreover it also contains a trunk lamp, hoot releases and 12 volt power outlets. Personal choices such as alloy wheels and spoilers are an additional option based on individual preference.

Competition

The Yaris have a number of other hatchbacks that are following hard after it, these are the Honda Fit (MSRP $16,115; 27 city / 33 hwy), Nissan Versa (MSRP $15,260; 26 city / 31 hwy), and the Chevrolet Sonic (MSRP $15,560; 26 city / 35 hwy). The Toyota Yaris still leads this pack in price and mileage.

What others say:

“The 2012 Toyota Yaris is fuel-efficient in the city without hybridhardware, and it has an nicely appointed interior that feels cheerful but not cheapskate; but its weak performance and highway refinement aren’t up to current class standards.”Car Connection

“Acceleration is adequate, but the engine drones. The driving position is flawed, fit and finish is cheap, and the center-mounted gauges are annoying.”MSN Auto-ConsumerReports

“In the subcompact category, Toyota’s Yaris was getting run over by newer, more edgy competitors such as the Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta and MAZDA2. To remedy the situation, Toyota has revamped the 2012 Toyota Yaris hatchback (called a liftback in Toyota-speak), giving new life to its larger, more stylish and more content-heavy small car.”KBB

“With more cargo capacity, sharper sheet metal and sportier suspension tuning, the redesigned 2012 Toyota Yaris moves up a few notches on the economy-hatch hierarchy. High fuel efficiency; agreeable handling; simple but stylish interior.”Edmunds

2012 Toyota Venza

The 2012 Toyota Venza is hyped to be a car cum sports utility vehicle which will give passengers the right kind of alternative to the traditional and old Sedan. It is a five seat vehicle which comes in two engine options.

Engine

One is a 182 HP, 2.7 liter, four-cylinder and the other a 268 HP, 3.5 liter, V6. Both come equipped with a six speed auto transmission sequential shift control. The car comes in front-wheel and four wheel drive versions. The previous version of the Venza, the new model holds little difference from its predecessors. However, the 2012 model comes in three different trims.

Trims

The three trims of the new Venza was designed specifically for the U.S market. There is the LE, XLE and the Limited versions that are available. The LE and the XLE models are available in both the power options mentioned above. You can also have them with the FWD or all wheel drive versions.

However, the Limited Edition model is only available with the V6 engine. However, you can have them in front wheel or all-wheel drive configurations. If you are interested in gadgets, the Venza has an array of options including satellite navigation, climate control, power windows, cruise control, air bags and head restraints.

Interior

The 2012 model of the Venza doesn’t have the rugged and rough look of an SUV. However, it does preserve some of the qualities of crossovers. This kind of looks is not something that is new and has already been tried out by several different car manufacturers.

However, the design is refreshingly new and contemporary. In fact, the vehicle is a delightful combination of a sedan and a crossover. It preserves the qualities offered by SUVs and Sedans. It presents itself as a family vehicle and at the same time acts occasionally as an off-roader.

Performance

At a first glance, the 2012 version of the Venza isn’t completely about performance. The reviews concerning the performance aspect of this vehicle doesn’t look that bright, with the vehicle providing just the adequate power suited for a family ride. This has been the case with both the front wheel and four wheel drives.

It seems that the off-road look of this vehicle can be deceptive. With no power at all, climbing hills or driving with a full load seems a little bit out of the question with the new Venza. The interior makes up for its performance drawbacks. The seats provide the right comfort and you have all the essential gismos.

Overall, the Toyota Venza 2012 looks more like a sleek and stylish racing car but performs nothing more than a minivan. However, when it comes to the aspect of comfort, it seems to score some extra points over certain other cars in the market.

The roofline is adequately tall which enables for an upright driving, with enough headroom available. The basic difference, however, is the allocation of three graded versions of the vehicle, which sadly is restricted to the U.S markets.

Competition

The crossover market is limited and there are few who dare enter the fray, along with the Venza, the Ford Edge (MSRP $31,905; 19 city / 27 hwy) and the Nissan Murano (MSRP $30,365; 18 city / 24 hwy) to offer people.

Overall Rating

What others say:

“The 2012 Toyota Venza isn’t pulse-raising, but its smooth styling and calming, practical, comfortable interior provide just what some families or empty-nesters want.”Car Connection

“Venza is not quite as car-like as a Honda Accord Crosstour or Subaru Outback, but this Toyota never feels ponderous. It is competent and controlled in most every situation, but tight, fast turns make for pronounced body lean. Steering feel is good, though testers are divided on brake feel. Some say it’s fine, others cite mushy response. All-wheel drive is a plus for slick roads.”Consumer Guide

“The Highlander-based Venza fits in between a station wagon and an SUV. Assets include easy cabin access, a quiet interior, and a roomy rear seat.”MSN Auto-ConsumerReports

“With the 2012 Toyota Venza wagon, Toyota combines some of the best attributes of an SUV with the handling and visual appeal of a sporty sedan. ”KBB

“Spacious interior; powerful and efficient V6; pleasant ride; innovative interior storage; well equipped. The 2012 Toyota Venza is hard to define, but whether you call it a wagon or a crossover, it’s a competitive and comfortable family vehicle.”Edmunds

2012 Peugeot 208 GTi Concept

Since the 205, Peugeot has been producing quality cars in the super mini category.

This year the 2012 Peugeot 208 GTi Concept is introduced as part of a successful line of vehicles.

It sports a potent 1.6 liter engine, along with a 6 speed manual gearbox, and a small steering wheel to provide a close and sporty feel.

Exterior

The look of this Peugeot was developed from the 207’s sleek looks to provide a smooth but paneled textured look. The headlamps are full LED, and produce some interesting effects depending on the setting.

Surrounding LED indicators give the lamps the look of an iris when used, while on full beam, the headlamps produce the effect of a feline eye.

The double chrome exhaust pipes give a very sporty look to the rear, while spoilers and skirting only serve to enhance this feel.

The brushed aluminum grill forms a checkered pattern, akin to the racing flags, and the lower bar surrounding it, provides a French tricolor flag or British Union Flag design based on its origin.

Interior

The 2012 Peugeot 208 GTi Concept features double stitched leather sports bucket seats that hold you securely when driving, while the steering wheel too, is leather. The dashboard and instruments are all LED backlit, Alcantara finishing to the fascia, and aluminum pedals help complete the sporty look.

Performance

The Peugeot 208 GTi Concept is powered by a 200 hp RCZ THP 200 engine that with its light body produces an exciting top speed and acceleration. The 6 speed gearbox delivers power to the front wheels, while the top mounted rear spoiler helps keep downforce on the car at high speeds.

Braking is in the form of four disc brakes, with the larger ones mounted at the front.

Although at present, there aren’t any production plans for the 2012 Peugeot 208 GTi Concept, but the reality is the concepts being displayed by this car are not unrealistic anyway.

2013 Bentley Continental GTC V8

Bentley introduces the topless version of its Continental GT V8 in the Continental GTC V8, to join its line-up of cars to be launched this year.

The Continental GTC sports the same powerful V8 engine like its hard-top sibling which has been tuned to be a lot more frugal the previous generation.

Specifications

General Info
Vehicle Type: Coupe Base Price: $232,700.00
Fuel Tank Capacity: 24 gallons (90 liters) Miles Per Gallon: 14 city / 24 hwy
Dimensions
Length: 189 in. (480.6 cm) Wheel Base: 108 in. (274.6 cm)
Height: 55 in. (140.3 cm) Width: 75 in. (194 cm)
Curb Weight: 5445 lbs (2470 kg) Ground Clearance: NA in. (254 cm)
Luggage Capacity: 9.1 cu ft Maximum Seating: 4 people
Performance
Engine: V8 Twin Turbo Displacement: 4.0 Liter
Horsepower: 500 HP Max RPM: 6000 RPM
Torque: 487 lb-ft @ 1700 rpm Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic
0-60 mph: 4.7 seconds Maximum Speed: 187 mph (301 km/h)

New Design

The Continental GTC is identical to its hard-top sibling, barring its light-weight convertible roof. Both the V8 models feature the ‘B’ emblem with red wings. Glossy black front grille differentiates the V8 models from the W-12 ones. The V8 GTC carries the same muscular elegance of the W-12 models with characteristic wide rear track, powerful haunches and aggressive low stance.

Performance

The Bentley Continental GTC comes with a 4.0 litre V8 engine which churns out 500hp and 487 pound-feet of torque. The car does 0-60mph run in less than 5 seconds. The performance is almost equivalent to the Continental GT W-12 model. Not only is the car powerful, the engineers have managed to bump up the efficiency of the engine by 40% as compared to the old W-12.

To achieve this level of efficiency, the engine is designed to switch-off values of 4 out of 8 cylinders when the driver is maintaining a steady cruising speed. The engine switches back to V8 mode from V4 when the throttle is pressed harder. An intelligent Engine management system (EMS) works behind the scene to manage incredibly high level of precision in control of combustion process.

Transmission

The new 8 speed automatic transmission also contributes to the efficiency gain of the V8. Greater number of ratios makes sure that the engine is always at its most efficient shifting.

The Bentley Continental GTC V8 carries on the positives of the previous generation models, but with a much more efficient engine and vehicle dynamics. This open-top beauty is not just a great looker, but beneath the skin it’s a highly efficient vehicle as well.
