2012 Novitec Rosso Ferrari 458 Spider

The designer kit by Novitec Rosso, created for Ferrari’s 458 Spider model, includes super-lightweight forged wheels, 609 hp, 202 mph top speed and a carbon aero kit that makes the Spider even faster and a lot more dynamic.

Among the upgrades include a unique, staggered 21″ and 22″ forged wheel combo with a new suspension system that includes the ability to make ride-height adjustments hydraulically, power increase, and a new high performance exhaust system.

Novitec Rosso makes further customization available by offering features like black lamps and custom-tailored interiors.

Aerodynamic Carbon Fiber

Carbon fiber isn’t just used for F1 racing car enhancements; it is also the material of choice for Novitec Rosso’s upgrades to the 458 Spider. The carbon fiber kit offers a high level of aerodynamic efficiency as well as an impressive new look.

The front fascia has been upgraded with a 2-piece front spoiler and includes side flaps that allow for reduced lift while travelling at high speeds. The wings and ventilation grill in the front have also been molded out of carbon fiber to enhance the sleek new look. Carbon fiber skirts also give the side of the slick 2-seater an even sportier appearance.

On the rear, the bezel that surrounds the fogs lamps, and the diffuser, has also been upgraded to carbon fiber components. Optional carbon fiber upgrades include rear spoiler, rear wings and black side markers.

NF4

The new wheels are the perfect combination of visual beauty and stunning aerodynamics. In the 458 Spider kit, king-sized tires have been offered to give the sports car a typical Ferrari wedge-shaped appearance. The 21″ and 22″ tire/wheel combos, though large in size are extremely lightweight thanks to the delicate double-spoked design on the wheels.

PZero high performance tires are supplied by Pirelli in 255/30 ZR 21 on the front and 335/25 ZR 22 on the back. Alternatively, the popular NF3 wheels in diameters 20-22″ remain an available option.

Suspension

At the press of a button, the 458 Spider front suspension can now be raised by 4cm to navigate past curbs or traverse underground parking garages with ease. As it reaches 50 mph, the high-tech hydraulic system automatically re-adjusts itself so the front reverts back to its original height.

Engine & Performance

The Mercedes-Benz SL boasts a 4.6 liter twin turbo V8 engine that will give the driver a walloping 429 horsepower at 5250 rpm The amount of torque is 516 lbs -ft and ranges from 1800 to 3500 rpm, which allows the car to jump from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about four and a half seconds.

This mighty engine is married to a seven speed automatic transmission that has paddle shifters, yet reviewers claim that the transmission is smooth. When it comes to fuel economy, the SL gets 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, which is an improvement over the old model. The car also comes with a stop-start mechanism that helps conserve fuel, but some reviewers found it annoying to have to press a button to restart the engine every time they stopped at a red light.

Test drives proved that the SL’s performance, provided a smooth, powerful, comfortable and agile driving experence.

Exterior

Despite everything else, many reviewers found the exterior of the SL a bit clunky, though it’s other attributes more than made up for it. People also liked the retractable hardtop roof, with a Magic Sky Control option. This technology allows the driver to control how much sunlight is allowed into the cabin.

Interior

On top of its performance, the SL gets the highest marks for its über-luxurious interior. The COMAND infotainment system is state of the art, while the drive is impressively quiet. The seats support the body in comfort. They’re also power adjustable and heated. The driver can choose many options that make the seats even more comfortable.

You can opt for the Airscarf heating system, where a vent installed under the headrest keeps the neck warm. This allows drivers to zip along even with the top down in the winter and be comfortable. The new Mercedes-Benz SL has a surprisingly large amount of cargo space. The trunk offers 13.5 cubic feet and all a driver has to do is wave their foot under the back bumper to open and close it. Test drivers seemed to be especially impressed by this feature.

Safety

The SL hasn’t been tested by either the federal government or the car safety industry, but it does come with a plethora of safety features, such as driver and passenger air bags, 4 wheel ABS, brake assist, daytime running lights, rollover protection, and traction control.

Reliability

The SL has also not been rated for reliability, but it does have a four year, 50,000 mile warranty, with roadside assistance available throughout the life of the warranty. Roadside assistance can be extended after the warranty expires if the car’s been regularly maintenance at a Mercedes dealership.

Pros

People admired its comfortable and quiet but exciting ride, along with its powerful engine and opulent interior.

Cons

Some found the SL as not the sexiest car when it comes to exterior looks and the feel of the steering might be a bit mushy.

Roadsters, according Merriam-Webster, is “an automobile with an open body that seats two…” The SL class from Mercedes Benz is part of that select group. Other vehicles worthy of the description of roadster and comparison to the SL are the Aston Martin Vantage (MSRP $131,170; 13 city / 19 hwy), the BMW M6 (MSRP $113,100; NA city / NA hwy), and the Maserati GranTurismo (MSRP $137,300; 13 city / 20 hwy).

What others say:

“More massive in appearance but lighter in curb weight, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL 550 has grown longer and wider, reaffirming its mission as the “S Class of sporty cars.””Car Connection

“At least in 550 form, SL lacks the razor-sharp response of a 911, but that’s not really its primary mission. Even without the optional Active Body Control suspension, the SL is neutral in fast changes of direction. Steering feel is fine for everyday driving, but road feel is a bit lacking when you push it.”Consumer Guide

“The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is redesigned, with a more rigid aluminum-unit body, a new engine, updated technology in the roadster’s interior and an upgraded version of its retractable hardtop.”MSN Auto-ConsumerReports

2012 Citroen Numero 9 Concept

The 2012 Citroen Numero 9 Concept car is a fresh, more radical take on some of the automotive experiments undertaken on the DS range, a line marketed alongside the main Citroen line. The DS line, consisting of the DS3-DS5, just two years after the launch, has sold over 200,000 units.

The Numero 9 is expected to herald the DS line’s future and indicate the type of styling that we should be expecting from the next three cars to appear in the DS line: the premium C-segment Sedan, executive D-segment saloon and an SUV.

Like others in the DS line, the Numero 9 exhibits radical design choices that are immediately recognizable, sophisticated and inspiring. The body styling is extremely charismatic and the car itself includes a number of extremely useful everyday features as well as some remarkable performance statistics (39g/km carbon footprint, 50km range and 295bhp).

Dimensions

Coupe and estate proportions are subtly combined in the Numero 9, with a long bonnet, taut lines and low stance of 1.27m tall. Generous proportions are also provided in the interior, creating a comfortable driving and passenger experience.

The Numero 9 is 1.94m wide, with a wheelbase of 3m and a length of 4.9m. These dimensions have the advantage of being able to offer passengers extra leg room for rear passengers and also give the car an inviting, roomy look.

Plug In Hybrid

The plug in hybrid technology in the Numero 9 is in keeping with Citroen’s extensive eco-friendly policies. The hybrid drive train features an electric motor in the rear, a simple yet innovative configuration that optimizes traction and handling while limiting emissions and fuel consumption.

Other features that add to the efficiency of the Numero 9 concept car include a rear spoiler, windscreen pillars that contribute to air flow and wheels with integrated fins that reduce turbulence and fuel consumption while increasing flow around the arches.
