Porsche has announced a host of upgrades for the 911 GT3 R to ensure that the car retains its competitiveness for the racing season of 2013. The series of upgrades are focused on improving the performance. Enter the 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 R.

The upgrades come in the form of an enhanced aerodynamic kit, upgraded suspension and a bunch of electronic driver assistance systems.

Under the hood, things haven’t changed from the stock version. Porsche has retained the 4-liter 6-cylinder boxer engine that churns out 500 horsepower (368kW). The engine has been mated to a 6-speed sequential dog -type gearbox with pneumatic-shift system.

The 911 GT3 R clocks 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds and it achieves a top speed of 195 mph. The performance is staggering and the new machine looks in good shape to take on the competition in the new season of GT3 races in 2013.

Upgrades

The new 911 GT3 R has seen extensive upgrades for the new season and it only improves its odds of competing better this year. The car now looks more muscular, thanks to the widened front bumper and rear wing.

The aerodynamics of the whole car has been extensively fine-tuned in the wind tunnel. This meant modifications to the front bumper, sill covers, all fenders, rear panel and the underbody. The enhanced aerodynamic kit produces significantly greater downforce that will allow better cornering at higher speeds.

Modifications were not only limited to aerodynamics. The suspension system also got an upgrade. The track of front and rear axle increased by 50mm and the front rims got wider by 1.1 inches. The wheelbase of the car increased by 10 millimeters.

The electric engine of the Chreos is a unique one. Chreos hosts 4 electric motors, one for each wheel, which allow the car to generate 640 hp and 3246 lb-ft of torque. The car weighs 4850 lbs, making it one of the most lightweight cars of its class.

This allows the car to reach an electrically limited top-speed of 195 mph and an acceleration of 0-62 mph in less than 2.9 seconds. That is an awesome quality, even for non-electric vehicles.

Style

Just by looking at it, you get a feel of the power and control that emanates from the Chreos. With a retro-styled superfast rear silhouette and a masculine front, the sedan radiates an aura of a masculine modern man. “Slick” is the word used to describe it by my 8-year old son, and I must say I agree.

The Chreos reveal three variants of the car by color: royal blue, gravel grey and midnight black. It seems the designers have avoided less masculine colors on purpose and it seems to be the smart thing to do. Less masculine colors might have taken away the appeal from power that these colors radiate.

Good for the environment

The best part of the Chreos is one that we haven’t even talked about yet: its battery. The Chreos houses a powerful pack of batteries that allows it to cover distances of up to 1000kms from a single charge. Even better, the Silex Chreos is the first car to feature the Silex Hypercharge technology, which can allow a full 100% charge in around 10 minutes.

Using a lithium battery variant with a modified cathode allows for rapid charging with a 10 minute burst of 10-15 thousand volts at a low current. Even in the case where such power is not available, the Chreos also features a second port for charging which can utilize the standard port found all over the world.

The 2013 Spyker B6 Venator Concept indicates the beginning of a fresh era for the brand, which will include an increase in production.

The new Venator will be featuring design elements such as the aerodynamically-shaped glass aircraft canopy and a V-shaped radiator grille common in all other Spyker models. The production of this Concept is scheduled to begin in early 2014 for key markets like the Middle East, Europe, and Asia pacific.

The new B6 Venator features a mid-mounted V6 power train that produces 375 horsepower. The engine is connected to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Other performance related features will include: an all aluminum platform chassis and a RWD drivetrain system.

Exterior

Just like any other Spyker model, the 2013 B6 Venator will include the trademark V-shaped radiator grill’s mesh. The glass canopy extends towards the rear to optimize performance and minimize drag. The car will be offered with aggressive 19-inch TurboFan wheels in mirror polish finish.

Interior

The interior is crafted from materials which are uncommonly airy and open for a sports-car. The ignition switch comes with a red cover that reminds of starting an airplane. The dashboard will feature an aluminum fascia and will light up when you start the car.

The seats are fitted with leather that comes from the Royal Hulshof Dutch Tanneries of the Litano range. Another notable interior feature is the trademark exposed gear-change system inspired by early aircraft control design from Spyker’s aviation legacy.

The 2013 Spyker B6 Venator Concept seems to be a car that enthusiasts will be looking forward to in the near future. You will feel as if you are in the cockpit of a Lear Jet, save a few extra instruments. Both driver and passenger have a wrap around dash in front of them. Both occupants will also enjoy the dual climate control system.

Of course there is a multi speaker sound system and electro-luminescent gauges for the captain, I mean driver.
