While most of us can only dream of owning the fastest car in the world, some will do whatever it takes to possess such speed and power.So, how fast are the fastest cars in the world? Here is the 10 fastest cars available on the market measures by top speed.
1. SSC Ultimate Aero: 257 mph, 0-60 in 2.7 secs. Twin-Turbo V8 Engine with 1183 hp, base price is $654,400. Tested in March 2007 by Guinness world records, The SSC Ultimate Aero takes the lead as the fastest car in the world beating Bugatti Veyron.
2. Bugatti Veyron: 253 mph, 0-60 in 2.5 secs. Aluminum, Narrow Angle W16 Engine with 1001 hp, base price is $1,700,000. With the highest price tag, no wonder this is rank #2.
3. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo: 248 mph, 0-60 in 3.2 secs. Twin Turbo All Aluminum V8 Engine with 750 hp, base price is $555,000. Smooth and bad-ass, will make you want to show it off non-stop.
4. Koenigsegg CCX: 245 mph, 0-60 in 3.2 secs. 90 Degree V8 Engine 806 hp, base price is $545,568. Made in Sweden, it is aiming hard to be the fastest car in the world, but it has a long way to go to surpass the Bugatti and the Ultimate Aero.
5. McLaren F1: 240 mph, 0-60 in 3.2 secs. BMW S70/2 60 Degree V12 Engine with 627 hp, base price is $970,000. Check out the doors, they looks like bat wings, maybe Batman need to order one and paints it black 
6. Ferrari Enzo: 217 mph, 0-60 in 3.4 secs. F140 Aluminum V12 Engine with 660 hp, base price is $670,000. Only 399 ever produced, the price goes up every time someone crashes.
7. Jaguar XJ220: 217 mph, 0-60 in 3.8 secs. Twin Turbo V6 Engine with 542 hp, base price was $650,000. Made in 1992, this car still got what it takes to make the list.
8. Pagani Zonda F: 215 mph, 0-60 in 3.5 secs. Mercedes Benz M180 V12 Engine with 650 hp, base price is $667,321. With a V12 motor, this baby can do much better.
9. Lamborghini Murcielago LP640: 211 mph, 0-60 in 3.3 secs. V12 Engine with 640 hp, base price is $430,000. Nice piece of art, the design is very round and smooth.
10. Porsche Carrera GT: 205 mph, 0-60 in 3.9 secs. Aluminum, 68 Degree, Water Cooled V10 Engine with 612 hp, base price is $440,000. The most powerful and most expensive Porsche nearly made the list as #10.

The Reventon may not be as fast as the Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce (213 mph), but soon enough, hopefully by 2013, Lamborghini will bust out with a new 1200+ HP R-GT/Spyder version with a top speed of at least 290 mph and 0-60 mph in 2.4 sec. Then Lamborghini will then be on top of the hill. Someday it will come.

if you guys all did your studying you would see why the ssc ultimate aero is number one… it did 257 in a 2 and a half mile stretch the veyron did 253 in 5 miles… none of the cars can touch the ssc… its capable of halding well over 270 so thats why it destroys all… look it up i speak the truth… the only reason they didnt take it that high is because vw denied them track access and they couldnt find a long enough road to open the thing all the way up on… do the math people…

Calm down peeps (all you getting excited) Yes this list is a little out of date, the Hennesey Venom Viper, 9ff GT9, Gumpert etc. could be counted along with countless others, the lines between what makes a production road car or not are a little blurred as these are all produced in such small volumes. I guess for the purpose of this list, the Top Speed figures have to be indepedently verified by Guinness book of Records etc., not just claimed by manufacturer.

Most of you need to do more research, we are talking about street legal cars, for those of you who keep putting in the mix cars that are not street legal, than the fastest car is the Thrust SSC which does 100-600 in 30 seconds and has a top speed that breaks the sound barrier, the fastest production car is the ultima aero tt, which is also the fastest zero to 60. The 2nd fastest car zero to 60 is the Bugatti, and the 3rd is called the GTM 500 which is a street legal kit car and it does it with its stock motor in 3 seconds. The cars have to be stock, so a hyped up Viper, or blown Mclaren doesn’t count because anyone can do that. Factory power plants, nothing after market counts in these tests, its what the manufacturer puts in.

Hey Lambo…..Just because a person collects something doesn’t mean they have to be rich. I’ve been in the restoration business since the mid 60’s and have owned my own Corvette sale/repair for the past 35 years. That is why I feel so strongly about the car and prefer it over all others. Sorry if my owning something offends you. Sounds to me as if you may have a personal problem.

Forget all about those imposible to have cars, none of them can beat my Fiat Panda, with its 1.1 liter engine, rated at 54 bhp. 0 to 60 in 18 seconds. Look at this way, if you don’t have the money (probably no one on this blog) to buy the fastest car in the world, you might want to buy the slowest one, that way you feel unique in your own category…what you think

The Hennesy Twin Turbo Ford GT should be on that list it reaches speeds of up to 240mph and is easily the worlds best looking car!
