Integrating for the first time the modular transverse matrix (MQB), the new eighth generation Passat has gained more dynamic, seemingly epic proportions that lean towards a premium-class model and perpetuate incredible visual appeal, which was the goal of VW Head of Design Klaus Bischoff.

Engines & Performance
The new, lighter Passat Variant will be available for sale globally with ten direct injection turbocharged petrol and diesel engines (including the new 237 bhp 2.0 TDI Bi turbo with 370 lbs ft of torque, in conjunction with a revised 7-speed DSG gearbox) that cover a power range from 119 horsepower (88 kW) to 276 horsepower (206 kW) and, for the first time, with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.
All engines meet Euro 6 emission standards and both CO2 emissions and fuel consumptions were reduced by 20%. With a power output of 208 horsepower (155 kW), the plug-in hybrid version of the new Passat Variant will be the German automaker’s most powerful plug-in hybrid and with an all-electric range of 31 miles (50 km), it will be a genuine zero emissions car. All versions are equipped with a regenerative braking mode and a start/stop system.
Exterior
With larger wheels shifted towards the bumper, the new 2015 Passat Variant is characterized by breathtaking proportions promoting both exclusivity and stunning power.
The one-of-a-kind side profile of the car was achieved by a multitude of sophisticated edges and creases developed with high precision, especially those in the upper area of the side panels, which form a horizontal light-reflecting surface from which the sporty and distinctive shoulder section of the car develops.
Visually striking light surfaces alternate in the area between the window sill and the character line, exceedingly highlighting the strong rear wheel arch and shoulder line, while seemingly lowering the height of the new model.
Three equipment versions are available (Comfortline, Trendline and Highline) and in all of them, the radiator grille which is larger than the headlights is also upgraded by four chrome bars. The innovative all-LED headlights are offered in two versions, level 1, with reflector technology and level 2, with projection technology/ level 2 plus Dynamic Light Assist, via a vehicle camera.
Interior
Designed with the driver in mind, the interior has generous and optimally ergonomic space brimming with the latest technologies. With a very clean layout, the center console integrates the infotainment system and the easy to access climate controls; the gear shift grip is positioned ergonomically.
The instrument cluster functions as the fully interactive Active Info Display and all instruments, except the icon lights are implemented via software. For the first time, the new Passat will be equipped with a Head-Up Display which projects key vehicle information and warning messages directly into the visual field of the driver to minimize eye fatigue.
The network assistance systems provide the Passat, the most successful German business car with a new dimension of safety through cutting-edge technologies including Emergency Assist, Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Detection, Trailer Assist, Traffic Jam Assist and Park Assist.
All versions also feature an app-based Rear Seat Entertainment system for tablets, Car-Net incorporating mobile online services and progressive steering. The wrap-around, select lighting effect of the low-profile ambient light strip defines the interior space.
