2014 Volkswagen Golf R

This has been a great year for “Golf”, but we’re not talking about PGA here. In the first half of 2013, Volkswagen made European deliveries of the Golf TDI BlueMotion as well as the Golf Variant, GTD and GTI.

Now it is time for America to join the party with the Fall release of the 2014 Volkswagen Golf R.

This is the fourth edition of the Golf. Its fuel efficiency is 18% better than its predecessor.2014-Volkswagen-Golf-R-at-the-dock-A

Engine & Performance

Perhaps the most impressive component of the 2014 Golf R is found under its hood. It comes with a turbocharged 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder engine capable of generating 296 horsepower. The engine comes standard with 4MOTION all wheel drive to go with a 6 speed manual transmission.

The Golf R will accelerate from 0-62 mph in 5.3 seconds, and comes in with a top speed of 155 mph.

Adding to the cars overall efficiency, the Driving Profile Selector allows you to operate the vehicle in Normal, Eco, Individual or Race modes.

There are no great surprises when it come to the outside of the Golf R. It comes in 2 door or 4 door with the same overall size and shape of the current Golf hatchback. The front bumper is pronounced featuring large air intakes. The front grille has changed and predominantly displays the large “VW” logo in its center.

The Golf R is more attractive than its counterparts, it comes with 18″ alloy wheels, complimented by chrome encased side mirrors.

At the rear, you will find smoked LED taillights, the “R” badge and a diffuser to assist in the improvement of handling.

Inside the new Volkswagen Golf R, the sports seats are in “Titan Black” cloth centers surrounded by “Crystal Grey” Alcantara borders. The gauges specially crafted for the R model have blue needles and a 3 spoke steering wheel wrapped in leather.

Volkswagen offers a Nappa-carbon package as an option, allowing you to replace the cloth in the middle of the seats with leather and interior panels with carbon fibers. A 5″ touchscreen is standard with upgrades of 5.8″ and 8″ screens that are optional.
