Pontiac Tempest 150

The Pontiac Tempest was introduced to the market in 1960 for the 1961 model year as a compact car for people who are first time car owners. The car, produced by General Motor’s Pontiac Motor Division shared what was then a new Y platform that is unibody with Buick Skylark and Special, as well as the F-85 and Cutlass lines of the Oldsmobile division The Tempest’s platform was redesigned in 1964 and was then known as the A-body.

The Tempest got discontinued after the model year of 1970. An upscale sub-brand of the Tempest continued being produced. The Tempest was replaced by the T-37 series that still included all body styles of the Tempest. However, the T-37 was also dropped the following year, with only the LeMans left as the Pontiac brand for compact to intermediate cars. The Tempest experienced a bit of a revival in Canada when an L-body Chevrolet Corsica was rebranded as the Pontiac Tempest in 1987, to be replaced four years later by the Pontiac Grand Prix.
