Pontiac Sunfire 150

As the Pontiac Sunbird’s replacement, the compact car Pontiac Sunfire was first manufactured in 1994 for the 1995 model year. A number of drastic changes were introduced with the Sunfire, including structural updates in its J platform to adhere to stricter federal safety standards. Two models were available for the Sunbird’s initial run a convertible and a coupe model. It was also available two trims in standard and GT trims. However, after the year 2000, the convertible model was discontinued. A new and updated Sunfire was introduced that year. GM plants that manufactured the Sunfire were those in Lordstown, Ohio, Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, and Lansing, Michigan for the convertible models. Before it was discontinued, the Sunbird’s price was at $11,500.

The Sunbird received a poor rating in the frontal crash test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Pontiac G5 was produced as the Sunbird’s replacement for the 2007 model year.
