Used Pontiac Firebird

Pontiac Firebird 150

The first Pontiac Firebird manufactured by General Motor’s Pontiac division came out in 1967, the same year GM also released the Chevrolet Camaro with which it shares a platform. This was countered by Ford who released two cars that share the same platform, the Mercury Cougar and Ford Mustang in the same year. Firebirds ran on Pontiac engines until 1977, when it was changed to engines made by other GM divisions. This went on until the last of the Firebirds came out in 2002.

The third and fourth generation Firebirds featured an aerodynamic design. However, sales were already declining. Yet, the production process for the car was very speedy. The line’s popularity reached its peak in the 1970s, when it was used in the film Smokey and the Bandit. A second generation of Firebird TransAms was manufactured by Year One Muscle Cars and Burt Reynolds, the movie’s lead actor, to commemorate the movie’s 30th anniversary. General Motors has no plans to revive the Firebird despite reviving its cousin, the Chevrolet Camaro, for 2010. This is because the Pontiac brand will be discontinued after 2010.
