Pontiac Catalina 150

The Pontiac Catalina was manufactured by the Pontiac division of General Motors as part of their line of full-sized vehicles. It was initially used in branding as a sign to buyers that a car has a hardtop body, for example in Chieftain Eight and DeLuxe Eight Catalinas in 1950. Nine years later, Catalina became its own model, mainly considered as a buyer’s introduction to Pontiac’s full-sized models. The door and window areas of a Catalina were smaller and yet, the roof fixed and turns into a convertible, giving it an airy and sporty look without the disadvantages of a usual convertible. The Catalina, along with the Bonneville, was the only line of Pontiac hardtops until 1958.

The last models of the Catalina came out in 1981, leaving the Bonneville as the only Pontiac full-sized car. This was due to GM’s efforts to downsize its vehicles and leave the full-sized car specialty altogether. All in all, close to 3.9 million Catalinas were sold in its 22 year history.
