The Oldsmobile division of General Motors produced a full-size luxury sports sedan which doubled as an executive car called the Oldsmobile Aurora. The Aurora, which started being available n 1995, was available in the G platform that was derived from the Cadillac and has the same platform as the 2-door Buick Riviera.
The sedan became the flagship Oldsmobile with initially a 4 cam 32 valve 4.0L V-8 engine powering it. The Aurora had two engine options in the long run, though – a V6-powered and a V-8 powered version for the years 2001 to 2003. The Aurora had a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Aurora’s first generation ran from 1995 to 1999. In the year 2000, no Aurora model was available, even though the 1999 model continued production. From 2001 to 2003, the second generation was marketed to an upscale market, but did not gain the attention and sales that the original generation did. The December 2000 news of the Oldsmobile being phased out sparked little interest with the Aurora’s second generation line. Over 200,000 Auroras were sold in its 7 year history.
