Chrysler Newport 150

The Chrysler Newport was born in 1940 when it was used as a concept car, which carried the popular name Newport Phaeton. But many auto aficionados consider the Newport as a full-size entry-level vehicle from 1961 to 1981. Its design was inspired by the more upscale Chrysler New Yorker, which was Chrysler’s flagship model at that time. The Newport shot to fame in the 1940s when Walter Chrysler, the founder of the Chrysler company, owned one as his personal car. Also, the Newport was chosen as the pace car for the Indianapolis 500 race in 1941.

The last generation of Newport cars was released during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The latest models are smaller, lighter, and more fuel efficient than their predecessors. The Newport is a four to five-seater, rear-wheel drive sedan with a 122-inch wheelbase. Its engine is a 5.9-liter OHV V8 that produces 265 horsepower and 380 ft-lb torque. It also has a three-speed automatic transmission.
