Performance

With a closer look at the Nissan Versa 2012, here are the following specifications and see its strong and weak points as an automobile: First, the Versa has only a single option with regards to its engine which is a four cylinder, 1.6 litres with a 30/38 mpg city/highway performance that is quite impressive for a car of its size although it still falls short to the 40 mpg performance of the 2012 Hyundai Accent (MSRP $14,595; 30 city / 40 hwy) and Kia Rio. And in terms of the horsepower, it does not do any better than the preceding 2011 Versa model or in comparison to the 2012 Hyundai Accent.

Extras

This model also comes at three trim levels. The most basic is the 1.6 S then the second one is the 1.6 SV has additional cruise controls, chrome accented grills, power windows and side view mirrors with remote control. Additions such as the Convenience Package would add extra features such as the Bluetooth technology. While the best trim offers the best features, including those of the preceding trim it also has fifteen inch wheels and rear seat that are split fold down. Unfortunately, these packages would cost a lot more in comparison to the basic trim level.

Safety

One strong point that the Nissan Versa has is that it has safety features in comparison to its predecessor the 2011 Versa. It also has more spacious interiors even matching up to the newest Sentra model. This will make the Versa quite an impressive model some even think it would be difficult to make distinction between the two Nissan models due to this advantage with the Versa model.

The Competition

Additions such as the aforementioned features are sure to require extra out of pocket. If cost is a consideration, you can also look at the competition such as the Chevrolet Cruze (MSRP $16,720; 26 city / 36 hwy) or Ford Fiesta (MSRP $15,500; 29 city / 37 hwy) which have extremely good safety standards and other impressive features.

In terms of the price range, it is considered as one of the most affordable cars in the market at present although with the addition of some special features to the basic model, one could be spending quite a lot and it would be much more advisable to just get another model or brand that has a slightly higher price range than the 2012 Versa.

What others say:

“Manual- and 4-speed-automatic transmission hatchbacks feel labored and weak on account of their additional curb weight (some 300 pounds compared to the sedan). Lots of shifting of the manual is required for maximum acceleration; an S model so equipped did 0-60 mph in 9.5 seconds.”Consumer Guide

“The redesigned 2012 Nissan Versa would seem to meet expectations, but other subcompacts will likely be more enjoyable to drive and own.”Edmunds

“More sophisticated sheet metal and improved fuel economy are the most important improvements on the all-new 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan.”KBB

2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon

Avid followers of the Japanese car brand Acura now have an alternative to the 2011 Acura TSX sedan, the 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon. This vehicle is the concrete embodiment of Acura’s mission to satisfy its TSX customers. The TSX Sport Wagon is better when it comes to fuel economy, exterior design and style as well as better navigation system than its predecessor Acura TSX upscale small car. Despite these notable difference though, the brand remained dedicated in providing optimum safety and solid performance to the consumers most especially to the automobile critics.

Performance

When it comes to engine performance however, Acura TSX Sport Wagon scored less than the sedan because the former does not have a V6 engine option compared to the latter. However, most critics still find the TSX Sport Wagon fun to drive even if it only has a limited four-cylinder engine, 201 horsepower and five-speed automatic transmission. But then again, it would have added more to its appeal if the 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon had a sportier engine like the V6.

Exterior

The TSX Sport Wagon’s sturdy and magnificent exterior makes it a bit of a stunner especially for an entry-level luxury wagon compared to the TSX sedan. The extension of the tail or the rear portion of the vehicle provided a boost in the overall appearance. The sheepish smile of the chrome beak was also tamed down with Acura’s careful use of contrast in colors specifically its Vortex Blue Pearl paint. Just by looking at the Acura TSX Sport Wagon, one can imagine its outstanding velocity thru its excellent shock-angles and tapered roof.

Interior

The interior of the TSX Sport Wagon may be considered average when it comes to standard features such as comfort and space. The seats and of course the seat cover provided by the manufacturer are cozy enough for the passengers and the wagon provides more foot/ legroom compared to its sedan counterpart. As for cargo space, the Sport Wagon provides enough room for cargo or luggage. It has three hidden floor bins and the trunk is also spacious enough for bags and other things. Compared to SUV’s, the TSX wagon is easier to load primarily because it is lower, this is very helpful especially for travelers who load heavy items inside their vehicle. Acura has also given their buyers another option, for tech-savvy car-lovers, the 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon can be purchased with an automatic liftgate.

Added Features

Living up to the brand’s state-of-the-art interior features, this wagon is built with standard inclusions such as the satellite radio, USB port for iPod, stereo with seven speakers and Bluetooth connectivity. For those who want more high-tech features they can again opt for the technology package which includes rearview camera, navigation system that has a hard drive, solar sensors, Song by Voice feature which lets you control music being played thru voice recognition, etc. Compared to the TSX sedan’s confusing navigations keys and knobs, the 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon’s dashboard and center stack are not that cluttered with useless buttons. For overall interior looks, this vehicle is definitely above par.

Safety

Reviews based on test drives made by automobile journalists and car experts reveal that when it comes to safety, the 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon is also on top of the ratings, similar to the TSX sedan. It is packed with safety features such as an airbag undergone system, anti-lock brakes with brakes assist, traction and stability controls as well as active head restraints. Although the TSX Sport Wagon has not yet comprehensively gone through crash tests set by the government it is still remarkably safe as reflected on its 4 out 4 stars rating.

The Competition

For an entry-level luxury vehicle sans the expensive price tag like the BMW 5 (MSRP $56,500; 20 city / 30 hwy) series Wagon and Audi A4 (MSRP $36,400; 21 city/ 29hwy), the TSX Sport Wagon is definitely a must-buy. It has a high reliability grade and consumers are provided with comprehensive warranty.

It is not only easy to drive and navigate; it also provides safety and comfort better than other leading car brands.

2011 Singer Porsche 911 White

The latest trend in sports car production is for shops to take classic car designs and turn them into modern versions by using the latest technology in engine and car body manufacturing. The 2011 Singer Porsche 911 White uses the pre-1994 Porsche 911 Coupes and transforms them into new creations loaded with modern features and amenities. The transformed cars are not registered as new cars but retain their licenses and Vehicle Identification Numbers.

The old cars are completely dismantled and blasted to bear metal treating all parts with rust prevention solutions. All body parts are inspected for structural defects and are reinforced by welding in preparation for the transformation works. Wipers are replaced with the centrally located units similar to those of the Porsche 993 series. The fenders and bumpers, hood and engine deck are replaced with new carbon fiber body parts to make the unit light and strongly fitted.

The car color is set as immaculately white accented only by the spoiler, lower rockers and rear valances which are made of flexible and heat resistant Urethane. The air cooled 3.6L engines are meticulously stripped, blue printed and reconstructed to provide more power and efficiency. The entire car interior is completely refurbished and the suspension, tire and break systems are all altered to conform to modern standards.

Option: Nitro Shock 4×4 MSRP: $28,995; MPG: 16 city / 21 hwy

Performance

The Dodge Nitro Heat is powered by a 3.7L V6 engine that pumps out 210 horsepower and 237 lb-ft of torque and partnered with four-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are options for this model. Combined with the former option, the EPA estimates are 16/22/18 and 16 mpg city/20 mpg highway and 17 mpg are the figures for four-wheel drive.
Moving on, the other trim levels- the Detonator and Shock do away with excess power through 4.0L V6 engine that generates 260-horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque and is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The power gets to the ground through either the rear wheels with EPA ratings of 16/21/18 or advanced four-wheel drive system which comes with 15/21/17mpg in city or highway.

Exterior & Interior

Redesigned for 2011, the Dodge Nitro now looks more aggressive on the outside. Standard on all the trims are the 20-inch wheels, fog lamps, roof rails, keyless entry and heated mirrors. The base model displays deep tinted windows. The Detonator includes rear parking sensors and remote ignition, while a sunroof is added in the Nitro Shock package.

Inside, the ample legroom and reclining backseat are treats especially to the adults. The foldable rear seats and front passenger seat can carry luggage or long items. The Nitro Heat model comes with Bluetooth connectivity, tilt steering wheel, satellite radio, auxiliary audio jack cruise control, a compass and an outside-temperature gauge. The six-speaker stereo system which includes a CD player can also be upgraded to nine-speaker.

The Detonator looks more sophisticated with its leather-wrapped steering wheel on which audio controls are integrated, improved instrument panel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, six-way power driver seat and six-CD/DVD changer. The Nitro Shock offers premium comfort and luxury with its leather upholstery and heated seats. Moreover, included in the upgraded trims are navigation system with real time traffic and a touch-screen interface.

Safety & Reliability

The 2011 Dodge Nitro is equipped with standard safety features such as anti-lock brakes or ABS, side curtain airbags, traction control and electronic stability control. The Detonator and Shock integrate rear parking sensors for added protection. In the federal government’s assessment, the Nitro received a five-star score for front, rear and side impact crash seats.

On the other hand, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it “Good” rate in frontal offset tests; “marginal” rate for side impact tests; and “Acceptable” rate for rear crash protection tests. Compared to most SUVs, this Dodge compact SUV got a lower rollover rating which is only three-star. For the reliability test conducted by J.D. Power, the Nitro scored 6.0 out of 10. And just like the Dodge Journey, this SUV also offers a basic warranty of three-year/36,000-mile and a five-year/100,000-mile transferable Powertrain warranty.

The Competition

The Honda Element (MSRP $20,825; 20 city / 25 hwy) is highly recommended for its lower base price and better fuel efficiency. The Toyota RAV4 (MSRP $22,475; 22 city / 28 hwy) also beats the Nitro in terms of power and acceleration. The Ford Escape (MSRP $21,240; 23 city / 28 hwy) offers a remarkable 3,500-pound towing capacity.

The Dodge Nitro is packed with improved features. However, its fuel economy is hardly competitive in its class. The interior materials also do not seem to appeal to high-end vehicle enthusiasts. Nevertheless, with its comfortable seats and sufficient headroom & legroom, the Nitro is a decent option. The gauges on the instrument panel are easily readable. And according to Consumer Guide, the 2011 Dodge Nitro offers good overall brake feel and well-controlled cornering lean.

Overall Rating
59 out of 100

What others say:

“The 2011 Dodge Nitro has a macho name and styling, but that’s about where its appeal ends. Just about any other compact/midsize crossover SUV would be a wiser purchase.”Edmunds

“Nicely weighted steering gives Nitro a nimble feel that belies its traditional truck-type design. Well-controlled cornering lean enhances sporty demeanor. The standard sport suspension and 20-inch tires deliver surprisingly good response. Braking response is solid overall, though one test example suffered from inconsistent stopping action.”Consumer Guide

“The 2011 Dodge Nitro is very much a niche vehicle. But with a cramped interior, sluggish performance, poor gas mileage, and a very truck-like ride, it’s become increasingly hard to tell what exactly that niche is.” Car Connection

“The Nitro shares its platform with the Jeep Liberty. The 3.7-liter V6 engine returned 16 mpg in our testing. The Nitro lacks agility and the ride is stiff and snappy. The foot wells are extremely narrow. ESC and curtain air bags are standard. Visibility is poor. Reliability has been below average.”MSN-ConsumerReports
