What others say:

“The 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has an excellent layout, with comfortable seating and good versatility, but road noise and drab trim are serious blemishes.”Car Connection

“There is plenty of legroom for 6-footers. Headroom is generally fine, but the optional fixed-glass roof steals some of that. The seat is generally supportive but could use more padding for best comfort. The view out back and to the front and sides is good, though thick roof pillars pinch the view to the right rear. The available rearview camera helps here.”Consumer Guide

“The Outlander Sport is a chopped version of the small Outlander SUV, with reduced rear-seat and cargo space.”MSN Auto-ConsumerReports

“Aggressive styling; smooth, quiet ride; standard voice-activation system; affordable price.”Edmunds

2011 Jeep Patriot

Jeep is known for producing SUVs that are more than capable of slugging it out on off-road surfaces. This brand is the direct descendant of the Willys Jeep that braved the warzones of World War II. In fact, the Jeep Brand is considered to be the pioneer when it comes to off-road cars and SUVs. Right now, they are creating SUVs that remind people of that rich heritage. One of those cars that are tasked to do just that is the 2011 Jeep Patriot.

For 2011, the Patriot has undergone some changes. These changes include subtle exterior and interior modification, the addition of new paint colors, and a new list of optional features. There are 2 trims available for this car: Standard and Limited.

Exterior & Interior

On the exterior department, the Patriot immediately reminds you that it is a Jeep after all. With that traditional boxy shape that people love, it serves notice that it is ready to go anywhere. In fact, some even say that it is almost like an evolution of the Cherokee models in a good way. Additional equipment includes halogen headlights and side roof rails.

As for the interior, it has gone a long way from their initially maligned look. The materials used are better and the parts are more solid than previous models. There is sufficient seating and cargo space. The seats have adequate space both front and rear, but almost everyone agrees that one would rather sit on the front than in the rear when travelling long distances.

Trunk space is measured at 23 cubic feet. However, this increases to 54.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. While those numbers don’t quite sound impressive, it must be noted that this is smaller than most compact SUVs. There are a lot of innovative equipment included in this vehicle such as Chrysler’s UConnect system and tailgate speakers. Navigation system is among the optional equipment that users would surely appreciate.

Performance

There are 2 engine options that one can select when purchasing a Patriot. There is the 2.0 liter engine that puts out a maximum of 158 horsepower, and a 2.4 liter engine that pumps out 172 horsepower. While this may sound small for its category, it compensates for superb fuel economy. Rated at 23 to 28 miles per gallon, it has one of the better outputs seen on SUVs.

Two transmissions are available, a 5 speed manual gearbox and a CVT. Front wheel drive are standard, but a 4 wheel drive system is optional. Its off road performance is also admirable, especially when equipped with the optional Freedom Package that includes an elevated ride height and low range gearing, perfect for those that look for that optimal off-road experience.

The Competition

In addition to the Patriot, you can look at three other makes in the Midsize SUV market, the Kia Sportage (MSRP $18,295; 21 city / 29 hwy), VW Tiguan (MSRP $23,720; 20 city / 25 hwy), Subaru Forester (MSRP $20,495; 21 city / 27 hwy). These are worth a look to compare with one another.

Based on various reviews from both owners and critics, here is the list of pros and cons. Things that go in its favor include that distinguishable exterior, that improved interior trim, that adequate storage space (given its size), its fuel economy is stellar, and that suspension that combines off-road performance and on road comfort. However, people don’t like the fact that it doesn’t quite have enough space or comfort on the back seats, that it is noisy, that its engine produces an underwhelming amount of power, and that its on road handling is terrible because of its soft, off-road tuned suspension.

For its price, the 2011 Jeep Patriot brings a lot to the table. If you are looking for an SUV but your budget is on the short end, this vehicle could turn out to be a bargain for you.

What others say:

“The 2011 Jeep Patriot has one of the more versatile and spacious designs, given its relatively small footprint, but its noisy interior still feels low-rent, even compared to other budget-priced rivals.”Car Connection

“Accurate, natural-feeling steering. Composure is good at highway speed with moderate body lean in corners. Brakes have a reassuring pedal feel.”Consumer Guide

“The driving position is narrow and visibility is inhibited. An optional off-road package allows some off-road capability, but not serious off-roading. Reliability is average, but the Patriot scores too low to be recommended.”MSN Auto-ConsumerReports

“Those needing a cheap way to travel off the beaten path might want to consider the 2011 Jeep Patriot. Otherwise, steer clear of this out-classed compact-car-based Jeep SUV.”Edmunds

“For 2011, The Patriot receives new front and rear end styling, a revised interior with more soft touch points, a new three-spoke steering wheel, and retuned steering and suspension systems. Cruise control is now standard on all trims.”KBB

The seats have a 60/40 rear split and further offers style and comfort. It easily lives up to its dual role – a powerful truck and a comfortable day to day transportation. Drivers really get to appreciate comfort when in the beginning it was not exactly what they are looking for.

Safety & Reliability

As pick – ups are the most preferred transportation partner for the rough and tough, safety becomes even more essential and critical. Information Technology is a mainstay in this vehicle as it is geared with the Bluetooth and Onstar technology, which are already communication basics in this day and age.

Overall Rating
60 out of 100

What others say:

“Sierra HDs are surprisingly pleasant and manageable for such large, hefty vehicles. Straight-line stability is excellent, though Sierra’s significant size and weight limit cornering speed, as does the expected big-truck body lean. Steering is well-weighted, direct, and responsive. The brakes furnish stable, relatively short stops with fine pedal feel. Plus-size exterior dimensions make close-quarters maneuvering a challenge.”Consumer Guide

“The heavy-duty Sierra has a stiff ride, but is designed for hard work and towing rather than around-town driving. The 6.6-liter turbodiesel is strong and is mated to a smooth six-speed automatic.”MSN Auto-ConsumerReports

“Notably improved with added capability, the 2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD is an excellent choice for a heavy-duty truck.”Edmunds

“The 2011 GMC Sierra HD’s Duramax turbo diesel’s power, torque, maximum conventional and fifth-wheel tow and payload ratings are best in class.”KBB
