2012 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG

High performance SUVs are here to stay, and thanks to modern technology, they are becoming more and more powerful with every single year. Perhaps knowing this, Mercedes Benz created a car that is going to be competitive in this ever changing segment, and brings something extra to the table too, with their new release: the 2012 Mercedes Benz ML63 AMG.

To make the ultimate ML, Mercedes Benz has gone to their resident tuner AMG to come up with a super SUV. There are a lot of things that they have done to make this truck go over the top. At first glance, you can see that this car absolutely means business, thanks to its enhanced body styling and the 20 x 9 inch set of AMG wheels, with a 21 x 10 inch set optional. Then AMG proceeds to improve the quality of the interior, with sports seats and other AMG inspired bits and pieces giving the interior some sporty feel.

Performance

And then, there’s the dynamic stuff. An updated version of the 6.3 liter twin turbo V8 engine with direct injection produces 525 horsepower, providing a seemingly endless surge of energy to all 4 wheels. And with an AMG Speedshift Plus 7G tronic transmission, it allows both quick response and efficient engine use. The AMG-tuned suspension, handling dynamics are superb. And to top it off, the 2012 Mercedes Benz ML63 AMG is up to 28 percent more fuel efficient than the model that it replaced.

2012 Lincoln MKZ Concept

The 2012 Lincoln MKZ Concept is an all-new product by Lincoln, and an important step forward in the company’s efforts to reinvent itself.

The MKZ Concept made its debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and was a head-turner for attendees. The new automobile was presented by the Lincoln representatives as not simply a new Lincoln, but as a new brand.

Exterior

On the outside, the Lincoln MKZ Concept has been designed to give car buyers a look at the future of all Lincoln vehicles – it is truly a company concept, and a blueprint for future product lines. The guiding idea behind the design is what the company calls “elegant simplicity,” setting it apart from the complexities of luxurious templates followed by car makers in the past. Starting with the deep maroon finish, the simply elegant concept follows through to other features.

The distinctive grill is a refinement of the classic split-wing grill which first made an appearance in 1938 on the Lincoln Zephyr. A roofline that sets the Lincoln MKZ Concept apart from the typical shape of the sedan is the sleek and sloping, and the long line of the design gives the car an aerodynamic elegance which is also simple in its effect.

Perhaps the most unique design feature of the vehicle is the glass roof, which extends from the windshield all the way to the top of the backlight. The airy, open feeling this gives to the interior is delightful, and the concept is indeed simply elegant.

Interior

On the inside the Lincoln continues making good on the claim of being elegantly simple. The instrument panel has been designed to continue the look of the split grill – carrying this graphical feature through is a way to connect the interior and exterior for a balanced, complete design approach.

Other interior features include a push-button selection panel for transmission gear selection, a center console with a tiered and open construction, and gorgeous liquid crystal instruments. Wood, aluminum, satin and leather are all used in the 4 seat interior to add to the effect, and an LCD touch screen in the center of the instrument panel complements and completes the elegantly simple interior.

Performance

The 2012 Lincoln MKZ Concept will be available with multiple options in the powertrain department including front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. The Concept appears to be very successful at its stated purpose of beginning the reinvention of the Lincoln company. If simple elegance can be kept as the guiding principle for the design of future Lincolns, we’re in for a treat.

2013 Ford EcoSport

Ford launched the all-new EcoSport at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo. Fords growth strategy is to focus increasingly more on the emerging markets and the launch of the compact SUV in India Auto Show reflects the same. Ford EcoSport will strengthen Ford’s product portfolio in India as well in many other markets across the world.

With EcoSport, Ford is focusing on the growing demand for fuel efficient and practical SUVs, especially in emerging markets where low price point could see significant volumes for the EcoSport.

Ford EcoSport is a versatile vehicle which widens the horizons of mobility and use. EcoSport is a practical compact SUV which features compact form factor, aerodynamic design, sleek looks, sturdy construction, high fuel efficiency and spacious interiors.

Engine Specifications

The Ford EcoSport would be powered by a rather small 1ltr Turbocharged Direct Injection (GDI) 3 Cylinder Petrol Engine. However, the small engine size doesn’t deter the engine from producing high power and torque.

The engine is said to deliver a respectable 120hp of power with a peak torque of 170Nm, which is quite astonishing for the engine of that size. The engine is also low on fuel consumption. The company also plans to use 1.5 ltr Duratorq Diesel engine from the new Fiesta.

Features

Ford EcoSport will come equipped with safety features like ABS, EBD and Airbags. The compact SUV will offer standard features like AC, integrated audio system with steering mounted controls, alloy wheels etc. Features of the vehicle would vary across the markets where the vehicle is launched and the details would be clearer at the time of the commercial launch.

Ford EcoSport is likely to woo the urban customers who are looking for a versatile performer in form of a compact SUV. Ford has big plans in emerging markets with the all-new EcoSport and is likely to price the vehicle quite competitively.

2012 GMC Acadia

The family of full-size crossovers has enjoyed immense popularity since its introduction to the market. With the availability of crossover vehicles from different makers, you just might find yourself ready to drive away in a 2012 GMC Acadia.

Performance

The 2012 Acadia’s 3.6L V6 engine delivers 288 horsepower and 270 pounds-feet of torque. Drivers enjoy fuel economy and efficiency with fuel mileage at 17 mpg and 25 mpg in city and highway respectively.

The vehicle is aided by a 6-speed automatic transmission for smooth and ease of transition. The quiet humming on the engine when accelerating is appreciated by its users while the smooth handling and brake functions are ideal to meet driving preferences.

Exterior & Interior

The Acadia comes with an imposing character because of its size. Consumers are raving about how aggressive its outside appearance looks and how it deviates from previous GM SUVs released. With this latest model, it gives an impression of purposive design. Among the external features are LED lights, dual outlet of exhaust, and aluminum wheels and roof rails.

Matching its appearance is a spacious interior which features metal trim finishing and a flashy quality on its plastics. This gives off an inviting impression of comfort and peace. The three-row interior can accommodate up to 8 people. The sliding seats on the second row make more legroom. Both the second and third row seats can be folded flat and cargo can be placed on the rear floor. Some of the interior features are as follows: keyless remote entry and cruising controls, optional navigation and entertainment system, parking assist tool and backup camera, and leather seats.

Safety & Reliability

The GMC Acadia topped the crash test performed by NHTSA making it a better choice for safe vehicles. While IIHS did not perform the same test, it was give a top pick reputation. This means that it is better among other vehicle types in terms of roof strength, rear crash, frontal offset, and side impact. Standard features include OnStar, anti-lock brakes, front and side airbags and curtain bags, and stability and traction controls.

GM provides for the following on the GMC Acadia purchase: a bumper-to-bumper three-year or 36,000 mile warranty, five-year or 100,000 mile powertain warranty and five years or 100,000 miles of both road assistance and courtesy transportation.

Pros

  • Reliable safety features.
  • A number of standard features are available.
  • Third row can accommodate adult passengers.
  • Comfortable and spacious interior allowing room for up to eight people.

Cons

  • Has too much weight.
  • Slow 6-speed automation.
  • Lesser capability in towing.
  • High base price for a non-luxury vehicle.

The Competition

Mazda CX-9(MSRP $29,135; 17 city / 24 hwy). It is spacious on its seat rows but offers a smaller space for cargo. Its navigational system can be confusing to amateurs of the brand. It is also more expensive that its counterparts.

Honda Pilot (MSRP $28,320; 17 city / 23 hwy). It offers a spacious interior and storage bins but hard plastics make up a few interior elements, the external appearance is bulky, and it is pricey.

Ford Flex (MSRP $29,355; 17 city / 24 hwy). It has spacious interiors, a unique external, and offers an EcoBoost engine option but is smaller than a minivan. The optional features can cost a lot of money.

Toyota Highlander (MSRP $28,090; 20 city / 25 hwy). It offers a quiet ride with a hideaway second row feature but the third row is only meant for kid passengers. It also has minimal cargo spacing when all seats are occupied.

Overall Rating
83 out of 100

What others say:

“The 2011 GMC Acadia is good for transporting the family in supreme comfort.”Car Connection

“Front-drive versions are impressively stable and agile for a vehicle this size. AWD models–even with the optional 19-inch tires–feel a bit less nimble but benefit from added traction on slick surfaces.”Consumer Guide

“Like almost identical models from Buick and Chevy, the three-row 2012 GMC Acadia offers a winning combination of comfort, features, cargo space and performance in a utility-style package.”Edmunds
