1959 Chevrolet Corvette by Pogea Racing

When a customer requested for updated modifications to make a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Car by Pogea Racing, the German company gladly stepped up to the challenge.

This classic car maintains much of the looks of the old 1959 Chevrolet Corvette, with a modern high-performance engine.

Performance

Under the hood you’ll find a 6.2 liter V8 engine that offers 485 horsepower at 4400 rpm. As far as acceleration is concerned, this modified classic car offers speeds comparable to that of top Ferrari road sports cars, able to travel from 0-62 miles per hour in only 3.9 seconds!

The maximum speed tops out at 179 miles per hour. The car delivers 431 pounds per foot of torque, 78.2 horsepower per liter of fuel, and weighs 2,491 pounds. This power is all accessible by a manual five speed transmission operating on a ceramic clutch.

This 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Car by Pogea Racing was created with a Corvette LS3 engine, further enhanced with LS7 fuel injectors and optimized exhaust flow among other things.

This two-seater coupe model also incorporates the sports brake system of a Corvette LS5 for advanced braking capacity. The tires chosen were specialty Bridgestone Potenza brand tires for their superb performance.

Exterior

In order to accommodate the larger rear wheels, the mudguards were widened to make the 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Car by Pogea Racing fourteen and a half inches wider than the classic 1959 Corvette, resulting in a total width of 6.86 feet.

Interior

The interior of the 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Custom by Pogea Racing is based on the color combination of red and white, with a red steering wheel and seats that mimic the Rosso shade so popular with classic Ferrari automobiles.

With additional upgrades of an Alpine multimedia system, as well as satellite navigation, all of the electronics inside the vehicle have been raised to meet the latest standards in technology.

This 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Car by Pogea Racing is a beautiful example of American creativity refined by German engineering.

1962 Chevrolet Corvette C1-RS by Roadster Shop

The 1962 Chevrolet Corvette C1-RS by Roadster Shop won the award of the 2009 Street Machine of the Year for many good reasons.

The original idea that Roadster shop owner Jeremy Gerber and his customer Barry Blomquist had was to transform the 1962 Chevrolet Corvette into the kind of modern concept car that General Motors would be likely to produce today.

The unique name “C1-RS” represents the first generation of Corvettes (C1) and the name of the creator, the Roadster Shop (RS). It was a revolutionary undertaking, and the results impressed everyone.

Modifications

Under the hood of the 1962 Chevrolet Corvette C1-RS by Roadster Shop includes: a high performance LS7 seven liter V8 engine designed by Turn Key Engine Supply; a Tremec T-56 Custom transmission made by Bowler Performance Transmission; and a Kinsler Cross Ram EFI injection system.

Other modifications made on the Chevrolet Corvette C1-RS are a custom built stainless steel exhaust muffler, supporting a three inch diameter exhaust pipe; specialty hand fabricated aluminum gauges by Classic Instruments; and the entire chassis carefully sculpted using a 10 gauge steel frame.

Unique Concept

The unique look of the 1962 Chevrolet Corvette C1-RS by Roadster Shop was achieved by several key external modifications. The original convertible top of the car was removed to turn it into a real roadster model, and the windshield was leaned back and cut in such a way as to give a more aggressive, edgy look to the new Corvette.

Porsche 997 running lights and a complementary aluminum grille bar add to the sporty design. A carefully customized rear lip spoiler extends the natural lines of the car from the rear wheels all the way to the back tip of the car, further accentuating the sleek shape.

The tail light panel was also uniquely created in carbon fiber by Prototype Composites of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The hand fabricated aluminum arches behind the two seats were made to further enhance the car’s sporty nature. As a result, the 1962 Chevrolet Corvette C1-RS by Roadster Shop transforms a classic into a modern muscle car.

2012 Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe Series II

The 2012 Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe Series II reveals new design features, even though the basic appearance of the vehicle has not changed through the years.

From its inception in 2003, the Phantom series has been built as an ultra-luxury vehicle and the 2012 version sees the introduction of advanced cutting edge technology, improved drivetrain performance, and the latest in connectivity to complement the luxury.

Exterior

The front of the car is where the most visible changes can be seen. The grille has been completely re-styled and the headlights now sport a rectangular appearance.

The lights themselves are full-LED clusters to ensure easy integration with modern light technology, including curve light capability where the beams are reflected in the direction of travel. This feature provides improved illumination when coming around corners.

The headlights are also adaptive, meaning the beam can change according to driving conditions. When traveling at lower speeds, the beam is dispersed over a wider angle to make it easier to spot pedestrians. The beam automatically extends and slightly favors the driver’s side of the road at higher speeds.

Performance

The drivetrain on the 2012 Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe Series II sees several enhancements. The car is now equipped with a new 8-speed, fully automatic transmission with rear differential.

This controls the V12, direct injection engine. The enhancements have led to a 10% reduction in fuel consumption and to reduced CO2 emissions.

Added Features Inside

The Phantom Coupe Series II has also had a revamp of the electronics. The SatNav system has been upgraded. It now can display 3D maps and surrounding topography. It also provides information on the local area, such as places of interest, local theaters and restaurants.

The SatNav, audio-visual and driver information displays appear on the 8.8″ full color screen. The screen is also used to display images from the front, rear and top-mounted cameras. There are 8 pre-programmable buttons under the screen that can be used to give quick access to numerous options, like the phone book.

2012 Nissan Sentra

The 2012 Nissan Sentra is Nissan’s entry in the arena of small affordable cars. It has a modest design and a modest engine but the collective impression of car critics and reviewers is: there are better options than the new Sentra.

Having looked at its competitors, there are certain areas that Nissan seem to have overlooked such as the fuel economy, base prices and the overall performance.

Option:2.0 SR Xtronic CVT MSRP: $18,360; MPG: 27 city / 34 hwy
Option:2.0 SL Xtronic CVT MSRP: $19,760; MPG: 27 city / 34 hwy
Option:SE-R Xtronic CVT MSRP: $20,490; MPG: 24 city / 30 hwy
Option:SE-R Spec V- Manual MSRP: $20,990; MPG: 21 city / 28 hwy

Engine

The base model of the 2012 Nissan Sentra is equipped with a 2.0 liter engine that delivers 140 horsepower and 147 lbs/ft of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. In higher trims, prospective owners can go for the optional Continuous Variable Transmission.

The SE-R model sports a 4-cylinder 2.5 liter engine paired with CVT that brings out 177 horsepower. The SE-R with Spec V has a 4-cylinder 2.5 engine and a manual 6-speed transmission that provides 200 horsepower.

The fuel efficiency rating is directly affected by the engine. The base model has a rating of 34 mpg for highway and 27 mpg for city driving. The SE-R has 31 mpg for highway and 24 mpg for city driving. The SE-R Spec V has 28 mpg for highway and 21 mpg for city driving.

Performance

The base model with the 2.0 liter engine is definitely adequate for daily errands. But if you want more power, you must go for the SE-R Spec V. The higher level trim has better handling than the base model too. But you cannot expect great improvements because you can still feel the road imperfections.

And because it has a manual transmission, do not expect the SE-R Spec V to deliver the convenience that automatic transmissions bring. But the thing that we do not like the most is the price for the new Sentra. For $20,000, you can find other cars that perform better.

Exterior

The design of the new Sentra is respectable. It does not look too sporty and it does not look too dated either. It doesn’t lack elegance too, and it makes the Sentra handsome enough. The styling is not much of a concern.

Interior

The new Sentra provides the standard seating just like other sedans. What caught our attention is the intuitive layout design for the controls. Since it can be controlled easily, you can focus on the road more. This little detail makes a big difference for safety. The materials used for the interior are decent and are perfect for their price.

The rear seats can hold two adults but they may become uncomfortable for long trips because of the little legroom. Children will have no problems about it though. The doors are large which makes entry and exit easy. This is an advantage when you need to hurry for an errand.

Safety

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the new Sentra “acceptable” for roof strength, side impact and rear tests. It got a “good” score in front offset tests though. The Sentra comes with the standard safety features such as anti-lock brakes, traction control, dual-stage front airbags, side curtain airbags, side impact airbags and electronic brake-force distribution.

Reliability

The Sentra comes with the standard 3-year warranty and a 5-year warranty for the powertrain.

Pros & Cons

The 2012 Sentra has intuitive controls and spacious front seats. The Sentra is outshined by its competitors in many aspects.

Overall the 2012 Nissan Sentra is a handsome and respectable car, only that there are better choices for its price.

Competition

The Sentra was not alone it entered into the scene, it has been joined by the Honda Civic (MSRP $15,955; 28 city / 36 hwy), Hyundai Elantra (MSRP $15,345; 29 city / 40 hwy), and the Mazda3 (MSRP $15,200; 25 city / 33 hwy).

2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

There has been a continuous improvement in all the models of the Mercedes Benz line and with the advent of Technology the M series of Mercedes make a mark in the market. With the 2012 M-class, Mercedes is not aiming to make a great shift in terms of the exterior design, all it is doing is to make the model look more glamorous. At a glance you will notice that this SUV has a different tale to spin.

The crispy look with an overall masculine look and appeal in a style makes it appealing. The M-class was often critiqued for its design. Mercedes Benz has added innovative ideas and after investing billions of dollars on the project, the M-Class has come up with the desired result.

Performance

The M-class comes with two V-6 engines with a 3.5 liter turbo-diesel facility. This is something unique, which was not achieved in past 10 years. The gas engine comprises of 302 HP with a fuel economy described for the city and highway separately. The city speed was 17 mpg while the highway speed goes to 22. Both the numbers have gone up by 2 mpg which is an added feature.

There is a direct-injection process and has new injection formulas. Mercedes Benz left no room for any misfit when it offered the M-class SUV to the audiences. The chassis of this new updated version of M class has been made with more high-tensile steel and is longer and wider than its predecessor. This model came with Aluminum components and, which gave it a benefit is shedding almost 60 pounds of the extra weight. The brand-new gasoline and the diesel engine give it a better fuel economy, and the control air suspension system provides a proper damping effect.

Interior

The interior has a more luxurious look, a powerful lift-gate and more number of airbags inside. The safety section too was kept on proper a vigil and was provide a more compact view.

Highlights

The standard model of 3.5L V6 obtains a direct injection to increase the power to 302HP and the fuel economy too increases by 17/22 mpg in city and highways respectively. The blue TEC diesel model id more enhanced in terms of efficiency and provides a 20/25 mpg of fuel efficiency.

The Competition

There are many SUVs that vie for the peoples attention. Among those in close competition with the M Class are: the Land Rover LR4 (MSRP $48,900; 12 city / 17 hwy), Audi Q7 (MSRP $46,250; 16 city / 22 hwy), and the Lexus GX460 (MSRP $53,245; 15 city / 20 hwy). The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 (MSRP $54,470; 12 city / 18 hwy) is another that is highly priced among others.

Pros & Cons

The new ML series is considered as an optimum choice between luxury and safety. It is difficult to pick up any area where this model is superior but the improvements are significant. It would be seen soon with all parking lots being packed with this model from nose-to-tail.

Most of the reviewers have noted that the M-class series has almost all the features from the S-Class counterpart in terms of the safety features including lane assisting feature, Blind spot assistance and knee airbags. One important aspect was that all the features were included with several innovations but the price was kept quite steady and there was no fluctuations happening in it, much to the delight of car lovers.

What others say:

“The 2011 Mercedes-Benz ML-Class puts up to five passengers in the lap of off-road luxury.”Car Connection

“These vehicles lean more in fast turns than the sportier Acura MDX or Porsche Cayenne. Straightline stability is great, but these wagons are too tall, weighty, and top heavy to be truly agile. The steering is impressively linear and accurate, though its effort in turns can feel too heavy. Strong stopping control is augmented by outstanding brake-pedal modulation.”Consumer Guide

“The M-Class is a comfortable, quiet SUV with responsive handling and a firm yet supple ride. The powerful 3.5-liter V6 returned just 16 mpg overall. The seven-speed automatic isn’t the smoothest. ”MSN Auto-ConsumerReports

“The 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class sees plenty of key improvements, notably in performance, fuel efficiency and cabin ambience that should keep it fully competitive in the luxury SUV game.”Edmunds

“If you find yourself needing three rows of seating on a regular basis, the 2011 M-Class is not for you. With just two rows and seating for five occupants, the M-Class lacks the people-moving capability of its larger sibling, the GL-Class, but makes up for it with better fuel efficiency and maneuverability.”KBB
