2012 Rolls-Royce Art Deco

To commemorate the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Moderne held in Paris in 1925, the exposition gave rise to the term “art deco”. Rolls-Royce unveiled their own art deco style versions of three of its popular family of cars at the 2012 Paris Auto Show.

Rolls Royce revealed art deco versions of its Phantom Saloon and Ghost models, as well as the Phantom Drophead Coupe. The chief executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, explained that the art deco cars would serve to promote the company’s skill, elegance and artistry in producing bespoke interiors and exteriors for clients.

Colors

Buyers of the art deco Phantom can choose from a range of colors. These are Arctic white, Arabian blue, powder blue or infinity black. Regardless of color, each car will be trimmed with a dual coach line bearing an art deco theme.

In reference to glassware from the art deco period, the symbolic Spirit of Ecstasy is illuminated. In the Phantom’s interior, extensive use is made of art deco motifs and styles, like the embroidery on the headrests and the inlays on the black veneers.

Ghost models will also ship with the illuminated Spirit of Ecstasy, dual coach line, and internal art deco motifs and styles similar to the Phantoms. However, exterior color choices for the Ghost are limited to Arctic white or infinity black.

Material

Building each customized art deco car at its factory in Goodwood in the UK, Rolls-Royce uses only the highest quality materials. These are selected for the exquisitely crafted art deco features. A luxurious ambience is created inside the car by sublime matching of the finest leather with cashmere upholstery.

The wood veneers used in the cars have been especially source for their intricacy of grain, and depth and richness of color. Reminiscent of the finest art deco cabinet furniture, the wood veneers are decorated with inlays made from silver or mother of pearl.

2012 Peugeot Onyx Concept

The 2012 Peugeot Onyx Concept is tasked to steal the limelight from its rivals especially from its feline face.

An attractive body is not the only feature that this Peugeot supercar will be known for.

You will also get a powerful V8 engine and lightweight will also help this car to outsmart rivals in races.

Specifications

General Info
Vehicle Type: Hybrid Est. Market Price: NA
Performance
Engine: V8 Hybrid Displacement: 3.7 Liter
Horsepower: 600 HP Max RPM: NA
Torque: 43 lb-ft Transmission: 6-Speed Sequential

Engine

Under the carbon fiber shell, the Onyx Concept is powered by a 3.7L V8 twin-turbo hybrid powertrain and an 80 HP electric motor. These two combine to bring the Onyx’s total horsepower to 680. The gasoline engine generates 855 lbs-ft of torque while the electric motor adds 206 lb-ft resulting to a remarkable 1061 lbs-ft of torque.

The power is stored in lithium-ion batteries and sent to the rear wheels using a 6-speed sequential transmission. With such remarkable power output, the Onyx can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.2 seconds. The Onyx Concept’s power to weight ratio is impressive and is approximated at 2kg per brake hp. This ratio enables this supercar to achieve high performance without compromising its elegance and purity.

Exterior

The Concept comes with unprotected copper polished doors and wings. The rest of the body is covered with carbon fiber pieces in matte black. The front fascia comes with a flat vertical grille with 4 horizontal louvers and a lion emblem. Both flanks of the grille feature a pair of squinting LED headlights.

On the top side, there is a double-hump roof that boasts 2 air intakes, channeling the air to the engine. The rear is fitted with a lot of LEDs including: the light bar, Onyx bade and Peugeot’s signature 3-claw taillights.

Interior

The cockpit does not come with seats; rather it features a tub design with two indentations you slide into. The seating position provides you with excellent road feedback as well as a great view. The cockpit is soundproof, and is made of compressed and stretched felt. The dashboard is made of a new simulated wood, known as Newspaper wood.

The driver can view all engine activities and the vehicle’s speed through the heads-up display, while the rearview camera display, located on the ceiling, provides the driver with images from the 3 rearview cameras. Another great feature is the camera mounted between the headrests that capture your driving experience which can later be uploaded to a laptop for review.

The 2012 Peugeot Onyx Concept can only be described as the future supercar that many enthusiasts can only dream of. At the moment, there cannot be any supercar which can be placed in the same class with the Onyx concept

2012 McLaren P1 Concept

The 2012 McLaren P1 Design Study displayed at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, is a concept study that the McLaren believes will be a supercar that will provide the best driving experience both on the road and on the racetrack.

McLaren expects to have a production version available within 12 months.

The company’s aim for the P1, as outlined by Ron Dennis, McLaren’s Automotive Executive Chairman, is not to build the fastest car available. Instead, they want to produce a road car that will also be the fastest of its type on the track, and provide the most satisfying driving experience.

Although the McLaren P1 will definitely be a road car, the company calls on its vast experience in designing the best F1 cars. Maximizing the aerodynamic performance of the car was a priority, and McLaren subjected the design to the same extensive wind tunnel testing that its F1 cars undergo.

Downforce

Extensive wind tunnel testing has resulted in a car that exceeds any other car in terms of downforce. It has a five times greater downforce than the company’s 12C racer. The downforce and aerodynamic stability are key factors in the car’s performance. While the car will come with a powerful engine, the downforce and aerodynamic attributes will deliver premium handling and agility, and will greatly improve driver confidence in the vehicle.

This confidence will kick in quite early, because McLaren’s design means high downforce levels are achieved at relatively low speeds. This greatly improves driving comfort, and makes the driver feel totally in control.

Who is it for?

The McLaren P1 is aimed at a select group of elitist drivers who want the best driving experience in a road car, but will occasionally want to put the car through its paces on a racetrack. The company stresses that it is not specifically targeting professional drivers.

Further details about the McLaren P1, including the powertrain, will be announced early in 2013.
