The Jeep marque of Chrysler has a compact SUV in its line up of automobiles, called the Jeep Liberty. Outside of the United States and North American markets, it is branded as the Jeep Cherokee. Inspired by two Chrysler concept cars, the Dakar and Jeepster, the Jeep Liberty was introduced for the 2002 model year. The Liberty's cost is between Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. This vehicle, which was nominated in 2002 for the North American Truck of the Year award started as a replacement line for the Jeep Cherokee, which was discontinued.
The Liberty was introduced with three trim levels - the base "Sport" trim, the top end "Limited" trim, and "Renegade," which is more sporty and rugged. In 2007, the Renegade trim was discontinued, as marketing for the Liberty became more focused on the urban market, and it was replaced with the Latitude trim. Two-wheel drives and four-wheel drives are available for the Jeep Liberty.
