Used Jeep

Jeep is a brand of automobiles currently owned by American automobile company Chrysler Motors. It prides itself as the second oldest off-road vehicle and sport utility vehicle (SUV) brand, after Land Rover.

As rich as the car’s military history is the brand’s history as well. What started off as a car popularized by the military in World War II (the word “Jeep” being derived from the acronym GP, meaning “Government Purposes”) began with the company Willys-Overland, which, in 1941, manufactured a civilian version of the military vehicle, the Civilian Jeep (CJ).

In 1953, the owners of the company changed to Kaiser, which still called themselves Willys Motors until 1953, when they adapted the name Kaiser-Jeep. The company was then sold to American Motors, more popularly known as AMC in 1970.

In 1987, ownership changed again as the company was Chrysler bought the AMC. Chrysler itself changed owners in 1998 when Daimler bought it, and in 2007, Chrysler became an independent company again.

The Jeep brand currently is carried by only a few vehicles (6 lines to be exact), such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Commander, Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, and Jeep Liberty.
