The Ford Contour was a compact sedan with four doors. Ford Motor Company manufactured Ford Contour as 1995-2000 models in North America, together with Mercury Mystique which is Contour’s rebadged variant. After Ford stopped the production of Contour and Mystique, the company did not make a replacement in the line-up in North America. However, in Mexico, Contour was replaced by Ford Mondeo which was locally produced.
Ford Motor Company invested 6 billion USD to develop the CDW27 platform. This project aims to further develop Ford Contour, Mercury Mystique and Ford Mondeo in Europe. Ford Mondeo ended up having 3 body styles: the four-door sedan, the five-door liftback and the station wagon. On the other hand, its counterparts in North America were developed as strictly sedans which was a bit larger than Tempo and Topaz. It’s the standard on all models to have 5-speed manual transmission, while 4-speed automatic transmission is an option.
