The Ford Aerostar is a 1986 model which was launched in summer of 1985. This model has unique features. It has a trucklike rear-wheel drive combined with towing capacity that matches Chevrolet Astro or GMC Safari. It is user-friendly like Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager. The word “midivan” was coined to describe Asrostar because its size is in between small Chrysler’s minivans and large full-size vans.
A small number of Ford Aerostars used to be exported to Europe, that’s why its rear can accommodate European plate numbers. After the release of Windstar in 1995, Aerostar was dropped. Until the year 1997, more than 100,000 units of Aerostar were sold every year. This made Ford to place second in minivans total sales during that time. Also, for the year 1990, it was awarded as the Van of the Year by the magazine Motor Trend. Ford Aerostar was produced in St. Louis, Missouri. It’s the same assembly plant where Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer were built. This assembly plant, however, is already closed.
