If you are considering buying a BMW Z4, there are two generations of this vehicle to choose from: first is the E85 roadster and E86 coupe, and the second generation E89 exhibited in the Detroit auto show in January 2009. The Z4 is basically a rear-wheel sports car with its first generation (roadster and coupe) versions manufactured starting from 2002 at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The second generation Z4 models are retractable hardtop roadsters which rolled out in 2009 from BMW’s plant in Regensburg Germany. The Z4’s E85 roadster will give you a choice from four straight-6 engines — 3.2L, 3.0 L, 2.5 L, and 2.2 L — all of which are BMW M54 engine variants. The E86 coupe, on the other hand, comes only in the 3.2 L inline-6 engine. The coupe, owing to its hatch design, has bigger trunk space than the roadster. In the US market, the second generation BMW Z4 will be a choice between sDrive30i and sDrive35i engines.
