Fresno’s name was derived from the word “ash tree”. Spanish explorers deemed the place uninhabitable and the site stayed undeveloped until the 19th century. Potential settlers were discouraged to inhabit the place even after then because of the presence of the native population. The only time Fresno was given another look was during the gold rush.

Needless to say, Fresno developed over the years and is now one of the leading agricultural counties in the United States. It has produced vineyards and vineyards of grapes and raisins during its first years, and has evolved into producing over three billion worth of crops each year which makes up for most of the city’s economy.
