Forth Worth is the fifth largest city in Texas and the seventeenth in the United States of America. Its total area based on records is 298.9 square miles of which close to 98 % is land and only 2 % is water.

Forth Worth is in North Texas. It has a humid subtropical climate. It is hottest in the city during the month of July with an average temperature of 84 0F. On the other hand it is coldest during the month of January with an average temperature of 43 0F. The city frequently experiences tornadoes.

The city got its name from the name of one the leaders during the Mexican-American War, Major General William Jenkins Worth. He was a well respected and well decorated US Army general. He was also lauded as a hero of three wars.

The city started as a quiet town until it became a cattle center. It was called such because it became a stop during transport of cattle brought to markets. It is because of this that it got its nickname “Cow town”.
