El Paso is the fourth largest city in Texas. It has a total area of 248 square miles. It can be found in the westernmost section of Texas. It has an arid, warm climate. It can be very hot during summers. Winters on the other hand are dry.
The construction of railroads in the late 19th century brought a lot of changes in El Paso. For one, its population boomed. It was also opened to a lot of newcomers. Gamblers, cattle rustlers, priests and prostitutes were able to enter El Paso because of this. The entry of these varied types of people led it to being called “Six Shooter Capital”. This is because of lawlessness that prevailed due to the presence of prostitution dens and gambling establishments. Of course, this situation no longer exists.
El Paso is strategically located in the intersection of three states namely Texas, New Mexico and Chihuahua. It is also a good entry point from Mexico to America. Because of these, it has become an attractive site for many industries like electronics, construction materials, medical equipment and food production. The entry of these industries has largely affected its economic growth.
