The Volvo V40 is the station wagon version of the first-generation S40, a range of compact executive autos that Volvo Cars of Sweden launched in 1995. The S40 saloon was the V40’s stable mate in this iteration.

This wagon was replaced by the V50 estate in the next generation that came out in 2004, but not before the V40 received an accolade as the “Most Beautiful Estate Car in the World” in an award ceremony in Italy.

The V40 was the first car of Volvo to be introduced under the company’s British design director Peter Horbury. He was mainly responsible for the shift to the more stylish Volvo car designs from the traditional boxy style. The S40 series including the Volvo V40 wagon underwent some technical improvements in 2001. These enhancements included larger brake discs, improved engine management, revised rear suspension, new front suspension and steering, larger tires, and extra safety features.

A mid-size five-door estate or station wagon, the Volvo V70 is Sweden’s best-selling car for many years already since it was introduced in 1966. This station wagon has gone through three generations, the third of which was introduced in 2007.

In the Volvo lineup, the V70 close relatives include the saloons S70, S60 and S80, as well as the four-wheel drive XC (Cross Country) and theXC70. The original V70 was an evolution from the Volvo 850 sedan and station wagon series. This evolution involved either adding or improving thousands of parts in the Volvo V70 design in order to achieve such benefits as better handling and upgraded passive and active safety.

The Volvo XC70 is one of the off-road, all-wheel drive (AWD) siblings in the V70 series of five-door estates or station wagons from Volvo Cars of Sweden. In the first-generation V70, the AWD in the series was simply called as the XC (Cross Country).

This off-road variant was renamed Volvo XC70 in the V70 series’ second generation, all models of which were built using the P2 platform. It featured raised suspension, an interior grab handle and plastic body cladding.

Volvo changed the P2 platform in the V70’s third generation to the Y20 platform, and as a result, the Volvo XC70 AWD became available only with the front-wheel drive train. In this iteration, the XC70 was mounted with a 3.2L I6 engine capable of 235 hp (175 kW) at 6,200 rpm. Another recent revision that went into the XC70 is the addition of a DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction control) system.
