Used Oldsmobile 88

Oldsmobile 88 150

The Oldsmobile division of General Motors produced the Oldsmobile 88 (could also be spelled out to Eighty-Eight) for fifty years, from 1949 to 1999, making it one of Oldsmobile’s most enduring lines of cars. Eleven generations of Oldsmobile 88s were produced throughout its long history. The 88 was also the division’s best selling line. From 1950 to 1974, this full-sized car, particularly the 88 and Dynamic 88, which were the line’s entry level cars, was also Oldsmobile’s image leader.

Among the most popular features of the 88 were its advanced overhead-valve and powerful V8 engine, its compact size despite its classification as a full-size car and its light weight. It was during the 88’s last 10 years, and during the tenth and eleventh generation when the 88 name was spelled out. A number of variations in its name happened through its long history, with the last generation also referred to as Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Royale, Oldsmobile LSS, and Oldsmobile Regency.

Oldsmobile 98 150

The Oldsmobile 98 was the Oldsmobile division of General Motors’ flagship model in the United States market. This full-size car was originally called the Series 90 and also referred to as the Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight. The 98 brand was first introduced in 1941, making it among Oldsmobile’s oldest brands.

It was stopped when consumer automobile production was discontinued during the Second World War, and production was resumed after WWII. In 1949, Oldsmobiles 66 and 76 were replaced by the 98 and would become a mainstay of the Oldsmobile lineup of full-size cars until the Oldsmobile Aurora replaced it for the 1996 model year.

The Oldsmobile 98 holds the distinction of being a model that, during some parts of its history, did not share body panels with the other GM lines like Buick and Cadillac. Engines available during the last generation of 98s were the 3.8 L v6 and 3.8 L supercharged V6. It was available in seven trim levels such as Regency Elite, Touring, Regency, Touring Supercharged, Regency Special, Regency Supercharged, and Regency Elite Supercharged.

Used Oldsmobile 442

Oldsmobile 442 150

The Oldsmobile 442, pronounced as four-four-two was a muscle car made available as early as 1964 and was last seen in 1991. Manufactured General Motor’s Oldsmobile division, it debuted as an option package for two Oldsmobile models in the United States, the F-85 and Cutlass for the 1964 model year.

For four years, from 1968 to 1971, the 442 became a separate line, and was returned to being a model option in the middle of the 1970s. The 442 brand was revived by Oldsmobile in the 1980s. In its last year in 1991, it was back as an option package for the new Cutlass with front-wheel drive. The 442 name was derived from its mechanical features, which in 1964 were: Four Barrel Carburetion, Four on the Floor and Dual Exhausts. Before it was discontinued in 1991, the Oldsmobile FWD 442 still had a significant meaning, as it meant four cylinders, four valves, and two camshafts. The Oldsmobile 442 figured in pop culture, particularly in pop songs, with appearances in Primus’ “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver” and the Blondie song “Detroit 442”.

Oldsmobile Alero 150

The Oldsmobile division of General Motors introduced the Oldsmobile Alero for the 1999 model year in 1998. The Alero became a replacement of the two previous Oldsmobile lines, the Achieva and Cutlass. Production of the Alero started on April 1998 and the vehicle was built in Oldsmobile’s plant Lansing, Michigan.

The Alero was the last of Oldsmobile’s compact cars. It was also the last Oldsmobile vehicle that was phased out, when the last of the Aleros were produced on April 2004. Two models were available for the Alero – a two-door coupĂ© and a four-door sedan. Its chassis and engine was shared with the other lines of the GM family, namely the Pontiac Grand Am and the N body sedan. The trim levels for the Oldsmobile Aleros were the base model GX, the mid-level trim GL with levels 1, 2, and 3, and the high-end GLS trim. During its 5 year run, changes included the options for engines and the daytime running lights, which were changed from high to low beam.

Used Oldsmobile Aurora

Oldsmobile Aurora 150

The Oldsmobile division of General Motors produced a full-size luxury sports sedan which doubled as an executive car called the Oldsmobile Aurora. The Aurora, which started being available n 1995, was available in the G platform that was derived from the Cadillac and has the same platform as the 2-door Buick Riviera.

The sedan became the flagship Oldsmobile with initially a 4 cam 32 valve 4.0L V-8 engine powering it. The Aurora had two engine options in the long run, though – a V6-powered and a V-8 powered version for the years 2001 to 2003. The Aurora had a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Aurora’s first generation ran from 1995 to 1999. In the year 2000, no Aurora model was available, even though the 1999 model continued production. From 2001 to 2003, the second generation was marketed to an upscale market, but did not gain the attention and sales that the original generation did. The December 2000 news of the Oldsmobile being phased out sparked little interest with the Aurora’s second generation line. Over 200,000 Auroras were sold in its 7 year history.

Estimated Price Range for Used Oldsmobile Aurora: $1,200-$11,000
