Used Subaru Impreza

Subaru Imprezza 150

The Subaru Imprezza’s redesigned 2009 version may be dissatisfying as it shed some of the qualities of previous year models that made it stand out in the sub-compact category. The new design has been restructured and streamlined and its performance has been considered simply mainstream. However, with the AWD, excellent handling, and affordability, this Subie continues to impress.

The Imprezza is also being offered as a wagon and the high-performance WRX. It is available in 4- and 5-door and can accommodate 5 passengers. It is offered in the base 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, Outback Sport, and the turbo 2.5GT all with the Subaru Boxer engine. The transmission technology in the vehicle, however, is outdated making the acceleration a little sluggish. This could negatively affect the engine’s pull.

It is powered by a standard 2.5 liter, 4-cylinder, 16-valve aluminum alloy boxer engine. The non-turbo produces 170 horsepower at 6,000 RPM while the turbo-charged GT dishes out 224 horsepower. This power is transmitted by an out-of-date transmission system that disappoints. A standard 5-speed manual is offered and an optional 4-speed Sportshift electronic direct-control automatic is on the 2.5GT. The suspension is soft and the brake performs well. The ride is comfortable enough and ably handled by an independent strut suspension with lower L-arm on the front and a double-wishbone with upper A-arm at the rear. Stoppage is provided by 4-wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) disc brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD).

Manual transmission Legacys have a continuous AWD. The automatic transmission versions are fitted with an active AWD. The continuous distributes evenly for the front and rear wheels the torque. The active system, on the other hand, applies torque where it is most needed depending on specific driving conditions. The GT and 3.0R offers buyers the SI-Drive performance system where the driver can fine tune the car’s performance in three settings, Intelligent, Sport, and Sport Sharp. These settings achieve more fuel economy and give better control.

Used Subaru Outback

Subaru Outback 150

The Subaru Outback ranks high in the mid-size station wagon segment. It scores low though in fuel economy. With its AWD system, it is a good alternative to an SUV. This 5-passenger, 4-door wagon is SUV-like with a higher ride and ruggedness functionality and appeal on and off the road. The interiors have been given consideration including nine nicely-sounding speakers. The price tag, however, is a little too high in its category.

The 2009 Outback is available in 2.5i, 2.5i Special Edition, 2.5i Limited, 2.5XT Limited, and 3.0R Limited. The base engine is a 2.5 liter, 4-cylinder 16-valve, SOHC generating 170 horsepower at 6,000 RPM. An intercooled turbocharged version churns out 243 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and DOHC. The biggest one is found on the 3.0R, a 3-liter, 6-cylinder, 24-valve, DOHC that gives 245 horsepower at 6,600 RPM. All the Outbacks have the Subaru Boxer engine with I-active variable valve lift system (AVLS) and electronic throttle control (ETC) giving it ample pulling power.

Base MSRP for New Subaru Outback: $23,195
Estimated Price Range for Used Subaru Outback: $1,200-$22,000
Estimated MPG for Subaru Outback: 22 City/29 Hwy
Available Trims: Base, Sport, Limited

The high-end 3.0R gets an active valve control system (AVCS) variable valve timing. The ride is smooth enough and comparable to Subie sedans. It has front MacPherson struts suspension with lower L-arms and rear multi-link suspension system with anti-squat. The brakes deliver smooth stopping power. It is fitted with 4-wheel disc brakes with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD).

The manual and automatic transmissions are not very smooth, however. The Outback is furnished with 5-speed manual and 4-speed Sportshift automatic. The 2.5 XT and 3.0R both get a Sportshift 5-speed automatic. The 2.5XT and 3.0R is equipped with the very convenient SI-Drive system performance tuner that sets fuel efficiency and better drive responsiveness.

Used Subaru SVX

Subaru SVX 150

At its debut in 1989 at the Tokyo Auto Show, Subaru SVX was a concept car. Giorgetto Giugiaro, an Italian automotive designer, made the design of this car. From the sleek bodywork and the incorporation of various design, the ItalDesign designer made this for Fuji heavy Industries, Subaru’s parent company.

Subaru then decided to release the concept car and have it made with the Giurgiaro’s design while maintaining their signature design, the windows. This design of the widow is what Subaru calls an aircraft-inspired glass-to-glass canopy. The design is basically a window within a window.
