The town of Brookhaven in New York has an interesting history. Its earliest settlers were the Native American tribes Unkechaugs and Setaukets. The English settlers did not arrive until 1655, which was when they began to purchase land from the Native American tribes and slowly inhabit the place. Named after General Moses Cleaveland, Cleveland was the first settlement founded by the Conneticut Land Company of which the General was an investor of. Early on, population was low due to the amount being charged for the lots in the city. During the early 1800’s Cleveland became a market town where farmers traded and sold their crops and merchants sold their Eastern goods. Even with this, Cleveland still was not able to prosper as much due to the underdeveloped road networks. It was only during the late 19th century when the city became an important industrial city.

Cleveland was the first city to be lighted electronically in 1879 and boasts of the first traffic light ever made in August 1914. The city is also home to the Rock and Roll of Fame. The first coffee drip maker was invented by Vincent Marotta and the Life Savers Candy by Clarence Crain both from Cleveland City.
