Used Porsche 924

Porsche 924 150

The Porsche 924 is a two-door, 2+2 coupé manufactured by Porsche AG of Germany from 1976 to 1988. The 924 is a replacement of the 914 as Porsche’s entry-level sports car. It was the first Porsche model to draw power from a front-mounted, water-cooled, engine.

An Audi four-speed manual transmission was used in the original design for the 924. This was matched with Volkswagen’s EA831 2.0L I4 engine, producing 95 horsepower (71 kW) in North American trim. This was upgraded to a 110 horsepower (82 kW) in mid-1977 during which a catalytic converter was introduced to eliminate the need for power-robbing smog equipment.

US spec models differed from European variants in that the American versions have low-speed impact bumpers and round reflectors on each end of the body. The Porsche 924 is also distinctive for its sloping bonnet line, hidden headlights, and grille-less nose which gives the car its iconic wedge shape.

Used Porsche 928

Porsche 928 150

The Porsche 928 is one of the most expensive market entries of Porsche AG of Germany during the car’s heydays from model years 1978 to 1979. This car is a rear-wheel drive grand tourer sporting a front-mounted water-cooled and large V8 engine.

Its original iteration for the North American market had a 4.5L displacement and featured a single overhead camshaft design, capable of producing 219 hp (163 kW/222 PS). Porsche upgraded the engine in 1980 for US models from mechanical to electronic fuel injection, even as power output stayed the same.

This design signaled a major shift in direction for Porsche (started with the introduction of the 924 in 1976), whose earlier cars were only equipped with four or six cylinder rear- or mid-mounted air-cooled flat engines. One car variant, the Porsche 928S earned the distinction of the fastest car sold in the North America in 183, capable of 146 mph through its five-speed manual transmission and 4.7L-16v M28/19 engine.

The Porsche 930, with a rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout, came in three body styles: 2-door 2+2 Coupé, Cabriolet and Targa. In 1978, major upgrades were introduced in the Porsche 930. The engine was enlarged to 3.3 liters and an air-to-air intercooler was added. The intercooler feature helped boost the power output to 300 hp (DIN).

The car’s rear “whale tail” was raised slightly and re-profiled to accommodate the intercooler. Brakes of the 930 were also upgraded to those similar with units installed on the Porsche 917 race car. In 1980, the Porsche 930 was not sold in the US and Japan because of emission rules, but the car made a comeback in those markets in 1980 with an emission-compliant engine producing 282 hp (DIN).

An entry-level sports car, the Porsche 968 was manufactured from 1992 to 1995. It replaced the 944 as Porsche AG’s entry-level sports car. The 968 shares 20% of the Porsche 944’s parts, and is powered by an upgraded version of the 944’s straight-4 engine.
