Porsche 968

The Porsche 968 is a sports car manufactured by Porsche in between the years 1992-1995.

The Porsche 968 is the predecessor of Porsche 944, where 20% of the Porsche 944 parts have been used in the Porsche 968. The 968 is an updated version compared to the Porsche 944 where a new 3.0 liter engine has been used in the place of Porsche 944’s straight-4 engine, that delivers an output power of 236 hp

The additional features in the Porsche 968 are, it includes a new VarioCam variable valve timing system, dual-mass flywheel, electronic equipment, exhaust systems, updated engine and several other minor features. The Porsche 968 engine was considered the second largest 4-cylinder engine at the time of its production. A 6-speed manual transmission has been used and also Tiptronic automatic is an additional option.

Club Sport
In the year 1993, the “Club Sport” version has been launched. The luxury options in the Porsche 968 has been taken out in the Club Sport version, where the car consisted of electric windows, less sound deafening material, and A/C and sound systems were available optionally. The seats are of weighed less because it was covered with leather and was manually adjustable.

Turbo S 968
The Turbo S 968 version has been launched after the Club Sport. The Turbo S 968 is a high performance car which reaches the speed of 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds and attains a top speed of 180 mph. only 15 units of Turbo S 968 has been produced where all the units have been sold in Europe.

Turbo RS 968
The Turbo RS 968 was manufactured for the race teams in between the years 1992-1994. The Turbo RS 968 is a two seater which contains K27 turbocharger and delivers an output power of 337 bhp. Also another variant was launched in the Turbo RS 968 which consists of KKK L41 turbocharger and delivers an output power of 350 bhp.

Porsche 962

The Porsche 962 is a sports-prototype racing car manufactured by Porsche.

The Porsche 962 was designed to meet the terms of the IMSA’s GTP regulations and it was also designed as a replacement for Porsche 956. In the year 1984, the Porsche 962 was launched and it was a huge success at its time. The car was praised for its long lived career that even competed up to the mid 1990s.

After the ban of the Porsche 956 at the IMSA GTP Championship in the year 1981 as a result it differed from the rules and regulations where the Porsche 956 driver’s feet was in front of the front axle. To overcome these faults, a new 3.2 liter fuel injected engine has been introduced in the Porsche 962 also making it better than Jaguar. In addition 2.8L, 3.0L and 3.2L engines are also manufactured with twin turbochargers.

Several modifications have been done to the Porsche 962 by the racing teams where the body structure, mechanical elements, and aerodynamic elements have been modified. A number of modifications were done by the Joest Racing team compared to the previous modifications in order to give a tough competition to the Jaguar, as a result the Porsche 962 marked its victory at the Road America. A total of 91 units of Porsche 962 have been manufactured where 16 units were used by the Porsche factory and 75 units have been sold.

Racing History

The Porsche 962 made its debut in the 24 hours of Daytona which was driven by Michael Andretti and Mario, but it was retired in the 127th lap when a problem occurred in the gearbox and engine.

In the year 1987, the Porsche 962 participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans where a powerful 3.0 liter engine has been added in order to compete with the powerful opponents Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar; it also recoded a victory here which is also the 7th consecutive victory for the Porsche 962.

Achievements
The Porsche 962 was considered the most dominant sports car during its time. It won the World Sportscar Championship in the years 1985 and 1986, IMSA GT Championship for the years 1985, 86, 87, and 88, four time winner in the Supercup Series for the years 1986-1989 and winner at 24 Hours of Le Mans in the years 1986 and 1987.

Porsche 935

The Porsche 935 is a sports car launched in the year 1976 which was prepared for the FIA-Group 5 Rules.

The Porsche 935 had participated in a number of championships that includes the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterchaft and IMSA GT Championship.

The Porsche 935 also made its racing debut in the year 1976 where Martini has organized the work team for the FIA World Championship. For the Group 5 rules several modifications have been done which included the bodywork, water cooling, wider axles, and larger wings. It consisted of a 3.0 flat 6 cylinder engine that delivers an output power of 560 hp and the most attractive feature in the car is the flat nose shape at the front part.

In the year 1977, the Porsche factory continued modification to the Porsche 935 where two KKK units were used in the place of single turbo and the body structure has been changed. Later a new “Baby” version was launched as a competitor to the Ford and BMW. The car weighed about just 750 kg, displacement is about 1425 cc and delivers an output power of about 370 hp. The Baby version also marked its victory at the Hockenheimring Race.

In the year 1978, a new version nicknamed “Moby-Dick” has been launched where the body structure has been lowered by 10 cm. It contained a 3.2 liter engine which delivers an output power of 950 hp and equipped with water cooled four valve cylinders. The maximum speed of the Porsche 935 is about 240 mph; it also participated in the Le Mans where it reached a top speed of about 223 mph.

Up to the year 1984, the Porsche 935 has won about 150 races. It was also victorious at the 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Le Mans and 24 Hours of Daytona.

Porsche 930

The Porsche 930 is a sports car manufactured by Porsche in between the years 1975-1989.

The Porsche 930 is the predecessor of Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0 and also considered as the top range model and the fastest production car at the time of its production. The Porsche 930 consists of a flat six 3.0 turbocharged and air cooled engine and delivers an output power of about 260 hp. In order to obtain high output power; stronger gear box, larger brakes, and a modified suspensions have been used.

In the year 1978, modifications have been done where the engine was increased to 3.3 liters and air-to-air intercooler has been added to the engine. Due to this the engine was able to deliver an output power of 300 hp. Also, the braking system has been modified. Later the 5-speed transmission has been introduced in the 1989 models which was also the only version to feature the 5-speed transmission. The production of Porsche 930 came to an end in the same year 1989.
