The Oldsmobile division of General Motors produced the Oldsmobile 88 (could also be spelled out to Eighty-Eight) for fifty years, from 1949 to 1999, making it one of Oldsmobile's most enduring lines of cars. Eleven generations of Oldsmobile 88s were produced throughout its long history. The 88 was also the division's best selling line. From 1950 to 1974, this full-sized car, particularly the 88 and Dynamic 88, which were the line's entry level cars, was also Oldsmobile's image leader.

Among the most popular features of the 88 were its advanced overhead-valve and powerful V8 engine, its compact size despite its classification as a full-size car and its light weight. It was during the 88's last 10 years, and during the tenth and eleventh generation when the 88 name was spelled out. A number of variations in its name happened through its long history, with the last generation also referred to as Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Royale, Oldsmobile LSS, and Oldsmobile Regency.
