The Infiniti Q45, a full-size luxury car, served as the flagship of Nissan's luxury car division from 1990 to 2006. A rear-wheel drive sedan, it is powered by a V8 engine, its sole powertrain. The original Q45 was cloned from the Nissan President marquee sold in the Japanese market, but later versions were based on Nissan Cima.
The first Q45 has an impressive acceleration time of 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds drawn from its high-output 4.5L V8 engine with a rating of 278 hp (207 kW) and torque of 292 lb•ft (396 N•m). The second-generation Q45 has a smaller 4.1L VH41DE engine that churned power of 266 hp (199 kW) and acceleration of 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. This scaling down didn’t help sales despite further tuning of the vehicle for comfort when the Q45 was introduced in 1997. A complete redesign of the Infiniti Q45 was undertaken in 2002 including a new 340 hp (235kW) 4.5L VK45 V8 engine, but it too failed to capture added market share and the line was eventually terminated to give way for the more successful Infiniti M series.
