You got to give it to the marketing people of BMW for their creativity. In the second quarter of 2008, the German car manufacturer unveiled its BMW X6 which has been positioned in the market as a Sports Activity Coupé (SAC). Earlier, BMW employed the same marketing tack by calling its sports utility vehicle BMW X5 as a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV).
It isn’t only in the marketing direction that the BMW X6 and the X5 have some commonalities. Both share the same platform and both are manufactured in BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The X6 is a combination of the features of an SUV and a coupé. The BMW X6 adopts the SUV’s all-wheel drive, high ground clearance, large tires and wheels and all-weather driving capability. As a coupe, it has bold styling with dramatic sloping roof. But the X6 by itself is unique in that it is BMW’s first SUV (or SAC or SAV) to be equipped with an automatic transmission.
