The Audi A6, already in its third generation after its debut in 1994, is a multi-awarded vehicle. Car and Driver magazine included the second generation A6 in its Ten Best listing for 2000 and 2001.
The Audi A6 updated 2005 model has also been named World Car of the Year. These mid-sized luxury executive autos are manufactured in two body styles, saloon/sedan and estate/wagon (Avant). All of Audi A6’s three generations (C4, C5, C6) are laid out either with the Torsen-based Quattro permanent 4WD (four-wheel drive) system or with a front-wheel drive. Several engine types, including two turbodiesels, powered the Audi A6 variants up to 1997.
