The Chevrolet Avalanche is a distinctive pickup truck. Unlike an ordinary pickup, the Avalanche’s cargo bed has a folding panel design or “midgate” that opens to the back seat area. This pickup also has a removable rear window, and a series of three removable, watertight panels as cover for its cargo bed. There is an added storage behind each wheel-well, which are usable as self-draining ice chests and accessed by locking flip-top panels.
There are two generations of the Chevrolet Avalanche already, the first bearing the GMT800 platform introduced in late 2001 for the 2002 model year. Engine choices are between a Vortec 5.3L V8 and a Vortec 8.1L V8. The 5.3L engine is for the half-ton Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 series and produces 290 hp (216 kW), while the 8.1L is for the three-quarter ton 2500 series.
