Recently introduced was the 2014 Skoda Rapid Spaceback, the latest compact to gain traction in the high-volume compact segment. The Rapid Spaceback is the estate version of Skoda’s Rapid Sedan.
The Spaceback will fill the spot in between the Fabia and Octavia in terms of price. It is a compact that joins Skoda’s line-up filled with practical qualities in the hatchback design.
Engine
The Rapid Spaceback will be available with a choice of 4 petrol engines and 2 diesel engines. The engines offer a power output between 73 horsepower and 102 horsepower.
But it’s not the power ratings that will impress you. It is the superb fuel efficiency of this car that makes it stand out. One of the engines delivers fuel efficiency of 61.7 mpg (3.81 l/100 km).
Exterior
The first impressions suggest that Rapid Spaceback has been designed keeping a younger target audience in mind. It’s a car that exudes sportiness and has a fresh looks.
With a long wheelbase, Spaceback sports a stretched hatchback design, which not only makes it stand out amongst hatchbacks, but also gives it a “coupe” visual appeal. Rapid Spaceback dons a glass panoramic sunroof which almost merges with the extended rear window, giving it a different look vis-à-vis, its Sedan version.
Interior
It’ isn’t just the exterior of the car that is impressive. The sporty appeal of the car flows inside the cabin. As with any Skoda vehicle, the interior offers generous space. The legroom for rear seating passengers is the largest in its segment. This compact also offers a huge boot space measuring 14.6 cu ft (415 liters).
Safety Features
Skoda cars are known for their safety features and the Rapid Spaceback is no exception. The car comes with front, side and head airbags. ABS and ESC are offered as standard features. The Estate model has optional xenon lights, a tire pressure monitoring system and the hill hold system.
The Skoda Rapid Spaceback is slated to be showcased at the Frankfurt Motor show in September 2013. The European launch of the car is slated for October 2013.
