2011 Infiniti FX

One of the top midsized SUVs is the Infiniti FX. This SUV ranks 5 out of 19 tested. This luxury SUV is best for parents who want to drive a sporty, advanced, and fashionable family car. If you love cars packed with modern gadgets, the FX is the right choice. This car is good as a family vehicle but occupants at the rear won’t be that comfortable because it has slightly cramped seats. But interior and exterior design wise, the FX is exceptional.

Performance

The Infiniti FX35 has a V6 3.5 L engine and put outs a maximum power of 303 horsepower. The engine is couple with a seven-speed transmission that is automatic. In just 5.0 seconds, this SUV goes from 0 to 60 mph. Handling is great with the FX because of a suspension that is a double wishbone and a multi-link independent suspension for the rear. Steering is also smooth because it is integrated with a powerful and speed-sensitive steering. Braking is also good because it is responsive.

Exterior

If all the midsize SUVs are lined up together, the Infiniti FX will standout. It has a sleek exterior design integrated with a paint that is self-healing. The paint is not only self-healing but it is also hard to scratch. The adjustable power is dual heated and it has dual exhaust finisher made from chrome. The headlights are bi-functional xenon that is a High Intensity Discharge. An outside mirror that can be folded is also incorporated in the exterior design.

Interior

The interior of the Infiniti FX is filled with luxury features and one-of-a-kind design. The only let down in its interior design is the cargo space and the rear seats. The occupants of the front seats will find it comfortable while other reviewers said that the rear seats are somewhat cramped. FX has a swoopy styling which means there is little space for the head for the occupants of the back seat.

In addition to these interior features, the FX has many optional gadgets you can choose from that you can benefit from. The audio system is a premium Bose system with a 9.3 GB hard drive music box. There is also a navigation system (hard drive) from Infiniti. There is a rear back up monitor and an elegant 6-CD changer.

Safety

As of to date, only the insurance industry performed a crash test for Infiniti FX. For the rear crash test and the front, FX received the top score equal to “Good”. Even if the federal government haven’t performed their test yet but the numerous and advanced systems of safety aids are very comforting. The included features are the advanced system for its air bags, the Brake force distribution that is electronic, the Anti-lock brakes, the control system for the traction, and the Vehicle Dynamic Control. Several high-tech safety systems are integrated like the intelligent assist for the brake associated with a collision warning for the forward motion, seat belts for the pre-crash, and many others.

Reliability

The 2011 Infiniti FX received good ratings. Its overall mechanical rating is 4.5 out of 5 stars. The power-train rating is perfect 5. Other quality ratings of FX received 3 stars and above. This midsize SUV comes with a basic warranty for four years or 60,000 miles, and a six year or 70,000 mile for its power-train warranty.

The Competition

The FX is already heaving with luxury features but the Lexus RX 350 (MSRP $39,720; 20 city / 27 hwy) exceeds what luxurious features FX can offer. Driving and riding Lexus RX 350 is comfortable but its performance won’t surpass that of Infiniti FX. If you want a family SUV that is not that luxurious but practical, you might have a check on Acura MDX (MSRP $42,930; 16 city / 21 hwy). Riding it would be almost as fun as riding FX but its style won’t outdo FX. The spacious cargo area of MDX is a plus for a SUV. Another advantage of having MDX as your family car is it can accommodate all of your family comfortably in the second and third row of the car.

Pros & Cons

With the installed V6 engine in Infiniti FX, great power is generated leading to a fun driving experience. FX is packed with ultra-modern features like its navigation system and the system of the air bags. Its exterior design is sleek and splendid that you don’t want to take your eyes off it.

The only let down of this midsize SUV is it is not practical compared to its class. There are also visibilities issues that you need to think about before buying Infiniti FX. Also, you can sometimes experience harsh drives because of the suspension that is sporty.

Infiniti FX is a good choice if your family size is more than five and you love a sporty and luxurious SUV.

“The 2011 Infiniti FX has a sexy shape and an aggressive road presence, but its collection of details can lead some to assess it as cluttered.”Car Connection

“Most controls are logically placed and intuitive. Multiple safety-system on/off switches are clustered near driver’s left knee and can get confusing to distinguish because acronyms are used on each. Voice-activated climate control, navigation, and audio system didn’t always recognize voice commands.”Consumer Guide

“Well-finished and fairly roomy, the stylish cabin is quiet. Outward visibility suffers from the styling. Cargo capacity is modest.”MSN Auto-ConsumerReports

“With an emphasis on performance, style and technology, the 2011 Infiniti FX is an enticing choice for a luxury SUV. But it comes up short regarding practicality and utility.”Edmunds

“The 2011 Infiniti FX’s cabin can feel a bit cocoon-like, so claustrophobic drivers might prefer something a bit more airy and open.”KBB
