The 2011 Buick Regal is a midsize sedan often compared to the La Crosse because of its size and its appeal. The old Buick Regal models have been popular for a time but this time, the 2011 version looks more athletic. It has been modernized and refined thoroughly which is why among the entry level luxury cars, it is considered as one of the best sedans. It rides on a wheelbase of 107.8 inches that is shorter by 4 inches than the LaCrosse.
New Features
The 2011 Regal comes in two trim levels, the CXL and CXL Turbo. It offers standard features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, heated side view mirrors, fog lamps, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, full power accessories, leather upholstery, OnStar, power driver seat, auto dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, tilt/telescoping steering column, 60/40 split rear seatback, trip computer, audio system with seven speakers and Bluetooth connectivity.
The CXL Turbo also has additional features such as a 12-way power adjustable passenger seat in the front and rear parking sensors. These features are optional in the CXL trim. Other optional features of the Regal CXL Turbo are xenon headlights, 19-inch wheels and drive control system. Sunroof is also optional on the 2011 Regal.
Performance
The Buick Regal has two engines to choose from. One is the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that achieves 182 horsepower and 172 pound feet of torque. The other engine is the 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine that achieves 220 horsepower and 258 pound feet of torque. Both engines are in standard six-speed automatic transmission but the CXL Turbo also comes with a six-speed manual transmission.
Fuel economy is estimated to reach 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg in the highway. The Turbo trim can reach 18 mpg in the city and 28 mpg in the highway.
Handling gives a comfortable ride. But the body roll, hefty curb weight and vague steering puts limits to the vehicle’s performance.
Exterior & Interior
The 2011 version of the Regal has sharp and sophisticated styling. Reviewers say that its appearance is striking and would appeal to buyers that are fashionably conscious. Its horizontal lines which are defined further by a chrome perimeter can be very striking. The bulging fenders, short overhangs and steeply raked roofline can easily get somebody’s attention. The back is highly sculpted with the scrolling lines that are created by a shapely trunk lid.
The Regal can seat up to five people and gives a comfortable ride with its seating configuration. The front seats are supported for good driving and are comfortable during long trips. The rear seat on the other hand is tight and uncomfortable. The trunk measures 14.2 cubic feet but is narrow that it can hardly accommodate golf bags. Interior also features a 12-way power driver’s seat, easily controlled climate controls and an audio and navigation system.
Safety & Reliability
The 2011 Regal offers a standard four-wheel antilock disc brake that comes with brake assist, front wheel drive, traction control and six air bags with side-impact airbags for front and side curtains for front and side. It also comes with a communication system and six month free OnStar and then eventually the owner have to subscribe for the service.
The IHHS named the 2011 Regal a Top Safety Pick earning the score of “Good” in the front-side impact. “Good” in rear and roof strength and standard electronic ability system.
The Competition
The Regal is closely compared to the Hyundai Sonata (MSRP $19,695; 24 city / 35 hwy) for being a midsize affordable sedan. Regal is more expensive than the Sonata which also has better fuel economy. Other cars to consider are Acura TSX (MSRP $29,810; 22 city / 31 hwy), Audi A4 (MSRP $32,500; 21 city / 30 hwy) and the Lexus ES (MSRP $36,725; 19 city / 28 hwy) but these car models are more expensive than the Regal that is why it still remains as the best option in choosing midsize sedan vehicle.
