Goldfinger (1964)

The Aston Martin DB5, James Bond’s signature car, is the most popular Aston Martin car ever produced. Its fame was wholly attributed to James Bond, and the car first appeared in the 1964 Bond film Goldfinger.

Goldfinger is the third action film in the James Bond series and based on the Ian Fleming novel of the same film. It stars Sean Connery as James Bond, Shirley Eaton and Jill Masterson. The movie is about Bond following the Gold smuggler Auric Goldfinger, whose evil plans include detonating a nuclear bomb inside the Fort Knox Gold Depository. Along with the mission, he is issued an Aston Martin DB5 modified with gadgets and the latest technology such as the ejector seat (which Bond uses on a chase scene, much to his amusement).

In the original novel, Ian Fleming initially placed Bond to drive a DB Mark III model. However, at that time the latest model by Aston Martin was the DB5, so they used the DB5 prototype instead. The rest is history.

The Aston Martin DB5 also appeared in other James Bond films: Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Casino Royale.
