For many car drivers worldwide, the ultimate dream come true would be to turn in their safe and practical but oh so boring Audi, Skoda or Volva for a modern sports car like the Koenigsegg or a 20th century American classic like the Corvette Stingray. For most car drivers these dreams never come true, but having your own sports car might not be as unattainable as you think. You can for instance get a one year old Lotus Elise with time left on the warranty for no more than 22,000 USD if you are okay with having a car that someone else has used before you. If you want to purchase a brand new Lotus Elise from the factory, the price tag still lands on no more than 50,000 USD which is a bargain compared to most other sports cars. The reason why Lotus Elise cars come at such a reasonable price is that this is a car to have fun with nothing else. Lotus Cars, the manufacturer of Lotus Elise cars, have removed everything that is not absolutely necessary from the car to make it low cost and insanely low weight. Toss in a 189 hp (141 kW) Toyota engine and you have crammed a lot of punch into a very neat package. The Lotus Elise is capable of speeds up to 150 mph (240km/h) but the interior is extremely Spartan.
Dream or reality?
