Engine & Performance
The MKZ Hybrid uses a 2.5L 4-cylinder powertrain, combined with an electric motor. These two combine to generate 191 hp and 136 lbs-ft of torque. The power is charged to front wheels through a Continuously Variable automatic Transmission (CVT).
The fuel economy of this car estimates at 41 mpg in city and 36 mpg on highway. The MKZ Hybrid can sprint from standstill to 60mph in just 8.7 seconds, which is respectably fast for a Hybrid. Just like any other full Hybrid car, the MKZ is capable of operating on gasoline power only, pure-electric power only or a combination of both.
Generally, the system decides when to engage the engine, motor, or both. When the available 275-volt nickel-metal-hydride battery is completely charged, it can be used alone for about 2 miles on a speed of up to 47 mph before engaging the gas engine.
The MKZ Hybrid can be distinguished from the gasoline MKZ from the outside, through its small Hybrid badges mounted on the trunk lid and front doors. A waterfall grille mimicking the Lincoln MKS is fitted on the front end making the exterior look more elegant.
In the rear, there are wide, low taillights separated by a sheet metal and decorated with the Lincoln logo. The Hybrid is equipped with 17-inch aluminum wheels. Other features include: rear parking sensors, keyless entry, auto-dimming rearview and driver-side mirror, and fog lights.
The 2012 MKZ Hybrid comes with a quiet cabin which is loaded with many high-tech features. This cabin has many portions of chrome, aluminum-look, and real wood accents. The seats which accommodate up to 5 people are made of leather upholstery. The heated and ventilated front seats are comfortable with ample leg and headroom even for tall adults.
This car features SmartGauge function that allows the driver to learn some special techniques to get higher fuel efficiency. The MKZ Hybrid has a cargo space of just 11.8 cubic feet, which is due to the encroachment of the battery pack into the trunk space.
Safety & Reliability
The MKZ Hybrid is equipped with standard safety features that guarantee the safety of the occupants in the event of a collision. Some of these features are: emergency trunk release, traction control, child safety locks, driver and front passenger airbags, side head airbag, rear head airbag, 4-wheel ABS, electronic stability control, and 4-wheel disc brakes.
The MKZ Hybrid comes with a 4-year or 50,000 mile limited warranty as well as 6-year or 70,000 mile engine warranty. Moreover, its components are covered in 8-year or 100,000 mile warranty. You are assured with a 6-year or 70,000 mile roadside assistance.
