Ronin (1998)

Ronin is a 1998 action thriller film, starring Robert de Niro and Jean Reno, directed by John Frankenheimer. The two stars are former special forces & intelligence agents who became partners in order to steal a heavily guarded suitcase. The movie is known for its sensational car chase scenes.

Ronin is notable for its many car chases throughout the film, the last one being the longest one happening through the streets of Paris, France. One of its scenes use up to three hundred stunt drivers! Frankenheimer is formerly an amateur racing driver which explains how good he is with his car chase scenes.

Non melodic music is used during the car chase scenes, instead of the usual rock music because it was easier to edit and innovative. A number of cars are also used in the chase scenes, including a BMW M5, a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9, an Audi S8, a Peugeot 406, a Citroen Xantia and so much more. All cars are shot at high speed and were not simulated. As a result, the Audi S8 (the one appearing in the last car chase scene in France and driven by Sudduth’s character) was ranked 9th in the Car Magazine Top 40 Coolest Movie Cars.

Iron Man (2008)

Iron Man came out in 2008, and was an American superhero film based on the Iron Man comic books under Marvel Comics. It starred Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow, and was directed by Jon Favreau.

Robert Downey Jr. stars as Tony Stark the billionaire and master engineer who builds a technologically advanced super hero suit, “Iron Man”. Gwyneth Paltrow plays as Pepper Potts, his personal assistant and love interest.

Tony Stark main car is the Audi R8, and few other supercars such as the Saleen S7 made an appearance in the film, but does not get much attention. It’s no surprise a billionaire playboy like Tony Stark would own a car like this, whose steep price goes up to more than US $580,000. All Aluminum, running at a 750 Horsepower Engine, and can do an amazing 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds! The Saleen S7 appeared in Stark’s garage, and stood out among the rest of the cars. It’s very hard to miss the Saleen’s beauty, its low slung, masculine curves in bright orange paint. The Saleen S7 narrowly missed crash landing which garbled the Cobra.

Critical reception for the Iron Man film was very positive, and Downey’s acting performance was acclaimed. It was equally successful in the box office, raking more than US $585 million worldwide.
